i love these shoes...

...but I don't know if I can afford them. They make me so tall. So tall that I tower over Julie. Anyway, I am posting up this picture so Stfne can see these shoes. I was telling her about them last night.

At the stores, the shoes were listed at $242.00 but when I went on the website to grab the picture, it's on sale for $157.50 (but that's in US dollars). I have to go back to the store and inquire.

EB - part 2

How funny that I got the chance to meet another TV personality with the same initials, EB. I met Elizabeth Baird from the food show, Canadian Living Cooks. I saw her at Campbell House in the morning and couldn't figure out for the life of me where I had seen her. I full out just asked her if she is on TV and she told me from the Food Network.

I didn't really care too much to met Ms Brockovich but I was so excited to meet Elizabeth because I love food. She made a delicious Chicken Curry Rice soup (the recipe is dated back to the 19th century) and some melt in your mouth biscuits.

starbucks red velvet cupcake

Double Chocolate cupcake = HEAVEN!
Red Velvet = not so good!

I bought this cupcake for Mike (secretly for me to try) because he likes cream cheese icing. After two bites, he said that I could have it. I guess he didn't like it.

I myself did not like it either. I am not a fan of cream cheese and the cupcake is super-red, no real distinct taste. I just need to try the vanilla one. So far the chocolate one rules!

good friends

This post is on a serious tip...

I ran into one of Gino's friends (his best gal pal or as I like to call her, the one I wish my brother hooked up with - yes, I am not afraid to say it) this morning at Union. She is such a sweet girl and also a fashionista! She stopped me to say hi but then had to be on her way because she was late for work. I really love how Gino's friends are so caring and considerate. They still keep in touch with my family. I have to say that I am closer to them now since Gino died. Don't get me wrong, I knew each of his friends and were seeing a lot more of them in the past year but it's nice that they haven't forgotten about my family or Gino.

Gino had a great set of friends. Each friend brings a certain trait or element to their group. All of them have been friends since elementary school and still live in the same area. They are all still living at home but I hope that they remain friends even when they move out of O-town. I know that whatever issues Gino was going through, he had a good support of friends. It upsets me that he left them behind (and my family too) or didn't turn to them when he needed them. We will never know why Gino wanted to leave us but I hope that he knows he had the most wonderful friends anyone could ever ask for.

You should always treasure your friends, know that they are always there for you and that you are still friends with them now for a reason. They were brought into your life and you have chosen them because you need them and they need you. Eventhough my brother is no longer here, I am thankful that he has brought new people into my life, a new set of friends - his friends. I can never replace my brother and they can't replace him but it's nice to know that we have each other and can always talk about our memories of the one person we miss the most.

the day after the storm

With the cold weather and the pile of snow that just came down on us, wouldn't you want a nice bowl of soup? Check out the Sweet Spot's Best of Soups. I have tried the Baked Lobster and Crab Soup at Fred's Not Here/The Red Tomato and I can vouch that it is delicious and hits the spot. MoPar and I use to hit up The Red Tomato on Saturday nights at 10 pm (when it's happy hour) before we go clubbing to have some soup. It is truly the best. We go just for the soup and are truly satisfied!

so pissed

I was trying to make skor bars and I have made these squares millions of time but when I got to the chocolate layer, the chocolate chips did not melt. See the photo on the right. I am suppose to leave it in the oven for 2 mins, the chips are suppose to melt slightly and become shine so I can spread it over the bottom layer. This did not happen.

Does anyone know why the chips won't melt? They are the regular Chipits Milk Chocolate chips. Could they be old? What is wrong? There is no point wasting the skor toffee bits for the last layer.

Now I have no desire to make the other bars. I have no desire to bake. ARGGGGGGHHHHH!!! I am so mad!

baking and gift making

Tonight while waiting for Lost to start, I decided that I should make the next baby shower gift and bake for some birthday presents. I won't say for these are for, hopefully it may be for you.

The photo on the right is our version (me & Mike) of washcloth cupcakes. Mike is the wizard at rolling and I did the decorating.

THE CUPCAKES WERE MIKE'S IDEA but he did copy it from someone else!!!

I am also baking Skor bars and Magic Swirl Chip bars. I hope they both turn out okay. Baking hasn't been my forte lately. Although I love doing it, I am just too lazy and want to get it over with.

Anyone have a recipe I can try out?

strange...

It's strange. I haven't put up a post in 3 days and normally, I have something to talk about. But today, I am drawing a blank. So, I guess this post will be about Blu-ray movies.

Ever since I started working, I have always collected CDs and DVDs. I built my "chick flick" base and am quite proud of it. Now that we have inherited a PS3 (thanks G), I am starting all over again to build up my "chick flicks". I am going to be very picky though in what I am going to buy as Blu-ray isn't cheap. So far, I have The Devil Wears Prada and Sex in the City (which I just bought yesterday).

What other movies do you think I should buy?

starbucks double chocolate cupcake

Today I wanted to treat myself to something I would enjoy. Last Thursday when I went to meet Jesse, my old co-worker at Starbucks and I saw that they are now selling cupcakes - vanilla, double chocolate and red velvet. So, on my way home, I picked up a double chocolate cupcake and damn, is it ever good!!! The price is not bad - $2.25. I am anxious to try the red velvet one. So, if you are ever in Starbucks and you see the cupcakes - try it out! You won't be disappointed.

weekend of baskets

On Thursday, I went on my quest to find items I could put in a gift basket for two baby showers I had to attend this weekend - my sister-in-law Dianne's and my friend Mary Anne's. Unfortunately, I only made it to Dianne's. I had fun putting these baskets together and I can't wait to put another one together. Should this be my trademark thing? Anyway - I have wanted to post up this picture since I made them but I know that Dianne checks my blog ocassionally so I had to wait until she opened it. As for Mare's, I will give it to her later this week.

Let's see...I watched Nick and Norah's Infinite Playlist Friday night. It was okay. There are some truly funny moments and watching this flick made me think of the good old days when I would be out with my friends until the wee hours of the morning. I wanted to watch this movie because it's definitely a movie that Gino would have liked to watch.

For the rest of the weekend, I just relaxed. I worked pretty hard and also late most of last week. I do have some catching up to do. I need to return phone calls to Pat and Darina and also respond back to some emails - Andrew, Marilen, Theresa, Marie, etc...I have to admit that I haven't been feeling very social lately hence why I have been out of touch....forgive me please...

sweet things

My BFF Julie sent me her cousin, Juanita's blog and this morning, I had time to look at it. Juanita (aka Sweet Things) makes custom cakes. You should see these cakes, they are fantastic!!! She has great ideas and is extremely creative. I wish I had an event or party to throw just so I can order a cake. She also makes cupcakes...you know me and my cupcakes - I HEART cupcakes!

One cupcake that I came across made me think of Lovielyn. I am not sure if she reads my blog but Lyn - if you do read this, please check out these cupcakes from Sweet Things. As soon as I saw them, I immediately thought of you and your love for turtles!

product review: exact eyelights eye-brightening mascara

I have been wanting to try this mascara for some time after seeing an ad in In Style. When I see advertisements in this magazine, I automatically assume, I can't buy it in Canada. I was recently at Rexall and Cover Girl's Exact Eyelights Eye-Brightening Mascara was on sale for $6.79 (regular price $8.99). I picked up Black Sapphire for my boss who has blue eyes and I picked up Black Ruby for myself eventhough I have brown eyes. On my boss, it totally brightens her eyes - Black Sapphire has a tint of blue. As for me, I bought Black Ruby because it's a plum/maroon colour. It doesn't really brighten my eyes like my boss Jessica's lashes, it just darkens them (is darkens a word?). Maybe I should try the mascara for brown eyes. What I really like is that it has the plastic flexible brush, I prefer this kind of wand rather than the brush type. Oh and it has a patented no clump brush. I have tried and tested it and it's TRUE! Here are the colours they have:

Brown eyes - Black Pearl
Blue eyes - Black Sapphire
Green eyes - Black Ruby
Hazel eyes - Black Gold

I do like the mascara for an everyday mascara. It doesn't really plump or lengthen lashes. I have yet to take it off to see how easy it is to remove (luckily the one that I bought isn't the waterproof kind).

abdc

A guilty pleasure of mine is America's Best Dance Crew. Some people like Dancing with the Stars or So You Think You Can Dance...me, it's ABDC. I watched the first episode and Beat Freaks are awesome. Girl crews on this show in the past two seasons have been pretty weak, but these girls...damn, they're good. I hope they win...I'll just have to keep on watching to find out.

This is the best quality video on youtube I could find. It doesn't do any justice, you have to watch it on TV. Watch for the scissor kicks at the end...

moo boots

On Saturday, Mike and I did our round abouts in the east end. But first we stopped in Brampton and saw Belle, who had a sleepover with nana. Belle showed be her cute mani & pedi. Then,we stopped by the Ponce House to drop off the speakers and then we went to visit JP and Lyn and check out their new townhouse. I should have taken some pictures to show that it's a pretty cool house and the perfect size. Congrats to JP and Lyn on their engagement and their new home. This picture here on the left is of Marques. Look at his cool boots. This kid is so cute and such a good baby. He never cries, he just looks so surprised and curious with his big eyes. Thanks Jimmy and Adaiah for the DS game. I am still trying to think what game I am going to get in exchange. After our east end visit, we drove back to to the west end to visit family friends. I just hate the snow!

EB

It's an awful picture because it was taken with a blackberry. Can you guess who is in the middle? Her initials are E.B. and there was a movie made about her...

Erin Brockovich.

She was the keynote presenter at our conference today. I didn't get a chance to speak to her but from my co-workers who did talk to her said that she was super nice and very laid back. I was dealing with her agency and in her contract we were not suppose to talk to her or take pictures with her. Anyway, she was the highlight of the conference. So...do you consider her a celebrity? Did you like the movie Erin Brockovich?

product review: proactiv

Since I was 17, I had flawless skin and it was because I was on the pill. Whatever brand I was on controlled my breakouts. Well, it's been over a year since I got off the pill and I have had the worse acne. Not to be graphic but I break out on my right cheek and on both temples, as well as hard bumps on my forehead.

Before the holidays, I stopped by the Proactiv kiosk to inquire about their product. For the three step process, the three bottles cost $89.99. For that amount of money, I didn't want to commit without a trial. I found a trial kit on The Shopping Channel for $24 with a boxing day special of no shipping charges. The outcome after just a few uses is amazing. I truly believe the infomerial. It's not a hoax. I am a believer!!! I will finish my trial kit and see how my skin is at that point. I will probably consider spending the money to keep my outbreaks at bay. I highly recommend Proactiv if you are having the same issues as me and if you aren't 100% about my recommendation, purchase the trial kit like I did.

the cougar in me

Twilight fans - check this out...Jacob's new body...it's hardcore and it made me wanna drool...

...and then I remembered that I am 32 and he is half my age (he's 16)...hahaha, I am a cougar in the making! Although I don't think his face is cute at all (I was rooting for Michael Copon as Jacob in New Moon), his new body kinda makes up for it. Too bad he is such a kid.

ms busy

I have been busy at work. Working late and just too tired when I get home. I will most likely do a bunch of posts over the weekend. I plan to just relax and watch some movies.

Things that I want to do once work slows down:
  • get a manicure
  • update this blog
  • do some filing at home
  • write some letters (old school style - snail mail)
  • transfer files from my old laptop to my new one
Oh - before I go...I have been playing Imagine Movie Star and Viva Pinata - Pocket Paradise on DS...these games are so much fun. I should join Game Spot and post up some reviews. I am such a "gamer". Gino would be proud.

That's it from me. Stay warm!

movie review: christmas movies

On Friday, Anjay and I attempted to watch Bride Wars but the early show was sold out so we watched Four Christmases. It's a pretty good movie, it reminds me of Mike and I around the holidays. We are "that" couple. There is one part in the movie that I could not stop laughing at. All I have to say is, "Google me bitch!" It's too bad that Mike didn't come to watch this movie with us and that maybe we should have watched it back in December when it came out.

A little funny story after the movie: Mike had asked me to buy him popcorn after the movie to bring home to him. So, I asked the guy for a large popcorn and as I was going to pay, Anjay, insisted that he pay. The cashier was even saying, "you should let him pay, the guy should always pay". That irked me so I said to him, "I want to pay for it because the popcorn is for my husband who is at home and this guy is the guy I am cheating on my husband with, so I don't think he should pay for the popcorn". I must have made the guy feel really uncomfortable because he JUST walked away to get the popcorn with a weird look on his face. AWKWARD!!! Anjay and I couldn't stop laughing at this because the guy was like a teenager and didn't know how to react to my comment.

Anyway, my other movie review is for This Christmas. While I was off before Christmas, I was going to rent this movie from Rogers on Demand because Marilen had watched it and really enjoyed it. Chris Brown was pretty good in it, considering he is a music artist and yes, he did have a singing part. It's a feel good Christmas movie. Mike and I watched it on New Years' Eve and missed countdown because we were so wrapper up in it. It's funny and emotional. It kinda reminds me of Soul Food. So next year, plan to watch these movies before the holidays.

My other favorite Christmas movies - Elf, Love Actually and The Holiday.

M & M Meat Shops

Yesterday, Jes, Richie, Rylen and R.J. came over for a visit. We all can't remember the last time they came over to visit but it was definitely a long time ago because they don't remember us having a dining room set.

If there is one thing I have learned from Jes is that cooking for guests doesn't have to be all spectacular especially when you don't have time. We will share our secret with you...M & M Meat Shop. I bought Chicken Nuggets, Crispy Fries and Chocolate Chip Cookies. They were all pretty good. I strongly suggest buying things there, the people who work there are always so helpful and give suggestions. Their soups are awesome, the cream puffs and dips are good. Everything is frozen and if you are anything like Mike and I, who just don't have time to cook gourmet meals, M & M's is for you!

So our day consisted of Rylen playing Wii (it's a good thing we set it up in our room), watching Bolt and 1/2 of House Bunny. We were able to catch up with the Jes and Richie and then we had a surprise visit from Trix, James and Dee. It's been a while since we have had people over, I miss it. We watched Tropic Thunder later at night. Oh ya and my mom stopped by to see the kids.

Maintaining friendships having these kind of nights, just chilling and eating, is my kind of thing. In this day and age, with texting, blackberries, iPhones, etc...the art of hanging out is lost. I am glad that my friends and I make the effort to get together every so often to just spend the whole day together.

Rylen watching a movie

No need to bring a toy, R.J. likes remote controls

P.S. Thanks guys for the R4. I am so excited to play all the games that you pre-loaded for me. It's so thoughtful!

varadero, cuba review

Click here to view our picture from our Varadero trip. K.K. - this link is especially for you. You can also view all our other vacation photos on this site.

We stayed at Paradisus Princesa del Mar, which is located at the end of peninsula. I must say that this 5 start resort is quite nice. It's definitely a quiet and relaxing place to stay if that is what you are looking for. I don't think it's worth the amount that we paid (if you are curious, just ask) but if you can get a good deal for under $1000 before taxes (don't pay more than this), then it's worth it.

Some pointers:
  • Breakfast at the 24 hour Raquet Club is much better than going to the buffet.
  • Sakura, the Japanese restaurant is the best a la carte.
  • Bread in Cuba is so taste, if you are avoiding carbs, I would let it go while you are at this resort. It's so tasty.
  • Fried calamari at the Port Grill restaurant is so good, order two!
  • Fries are yummy when you eat it with ketchup and hot sauce mixed together.
  • Bring gossip magazines - OK!, US, Star, etc...all the staff at the hotel ask for them when you are finished reading them.
  • There is not a lot of english channels (be aware if you like to watch TV at night).
  • Limonada (lemonade slush style) is so refreshing. You can definitely get it at the pool bar.
  • If you are to Varadero in our winter, bring long sleeves, it gets chilly at times.
  • Late check out until 4:00 pm is 40 CUC.
  • I love for there is a guy on the beach that cleans the sand off your chair and asks if you want to sit in the sun or the shade - nice touch!
| blarkness rating: room 4/5, service 4.5/5, food 3.5/5, cleanliness 4/5, pool 4/5 and beach 4/5 |

That's about it from me. This trip wasn't that exciting for us. The resort didn't WOW us. I really prefer Punta Cana or Riviera Maya. My all-time favorite resort is Grand Sirenis Riviera Maya (not the Mayan Beach side with Transat) for a family resort and El Dorado Seaside Resorts for adults only. If you have any questions, let me know. Enoy viewing our photos...

don't buy this game

I have a feeling that I am halfway to completing this game and I have only been playing it for an hour. I hope it's not true because then the game is not worth it. I am giving the game the benefit of the doubt that it will last longer than 3 hours. Stfne - be prepared to borrow the game before I trade it in. Maur - you can borrow it too!

I had to try it out for myself but I don't think any adult should buy any Imagine games. I think that my favorite DS games are Cooking Mama and Diner Dash. I really love cooking games!!! Imagine games have pretty much let me down but the mini games on the site are so much better!

product review: aquaphor by eucerin

In Style magazine is pretty much my shopping guide. I read about Aquaphor by Eucerin and I should have search for this product a long time ago. Lately, I have had this dry, cracked patch on my upper lip. It appeared when the cold weather started. Every time after I showered, faced my face, brushed my teeth or licked my lips, the patch would appear, all dry and red. Yes, it sounds disguisting. I tried using Vaseline, Rosebud Salve, lotion - they just helped it out temporarily but the patch always came back. Well, while my mom was in California, I asked her to buy the healing ointment for me. I tried it last night and this morning, after my morning routine, the dry patch wasn't as red and cracked as it usually is. Also, I used it on my lips and it works wonders. I now have to look at WalMart and the drugstores to see if it's available in Canada. Luckily, my mom bought me two tubes.

me & baby callum

Remember a few posts ago, I showed you how lovely my updo was, well, this is what my hair looked like beforehand. The bonus of this photo is that I am holding CALLUM - surprise, surprise - Tita Leesha doesn't normally hold babies who are under three months but I broke the rule. I held this adorable baby. He is such a good baby! I love how he sleeps with his hands up. Apparently, all babies sleep this way. I can't wait to visit him again and also play with Brayden since he is BORED all the time. I love his little voice when he says, "Tita Leesha, let me plate you an empanada."

little travellers

I read about this organization in Canadian Living magazine (yes, I occasionally like to read it). I won't go into detail here but do check out the website (click on the little traveller below) and support the initiative by buying one of the beaded dolls. Each doll is unique and made by one of the women in South Africa affected by AIDS/HIV. Mike and I bought one each and plan to take them with us on our vacations.

Little Travellers

love the 'do

Yesterday, I went into work for two and a half hours. Yes, I am dumb but my other co-workers were going to work I wanted to be a team player. After work I met up with Julie, we went to Forever 21 (bought a black plastic rose ring and a purple jacket for $13.99), Future Shop (bought Devil Wears Prada and Night at the Museum in Blu-Ray) and then had lunch. After I trekked over to the Dagas to meet Mike there. We are some 'nadas, watched Lipstick Jungle and played with Callum. I was surprised that I was able to pick him up and hold him and even put him to sleep. I broke my rule of not holding babies until they are 3 months old. After Stfne and I decide to play with my hair. I told her that I loved the way Lauren Conrad's updo was in the season finale of The Hills...so she decided to try it on my hair. The outcome --> see the picture of the right. I truly am in love with the way it turned out. I wished that I had somewhere to go. Stfne, it's awesome, you are so talented. I could not stop staring at my hair when I got home.

To the Dagas - thanks for the hospitality, it's been a while since we just hung out and as always, Mike and I had an great time. We will enjoy our take away 'nadas tonight!

happy new year

Mike and I stayed home last night to celebrate (?) New Years Eve. The reason why I question celebrate is because we didn't do the countdown, at the stroke of midnight we were watching This Christmas (BTW, it's a really good Christmas movie). We ate some sushi and drank some red wine. Surprisingly, it just felt like any other night. I am glad we stayed home, we saved money!

Wishing everyone who reads my blog a happy new year, may 2009 bring you much laughter, love and wealth. 2008 was a troublesome year for myself and I am optimistic that this year will be better for me. With loving family and friends, a wonderful therapist and the most awesome husband, I believe I can get through 2009 with flying colours.
