What's in my Bag? Take a look...

After seeing a this post, A Look Inside My Bag from Ramblings of a Fab Brunette, I thought I would do the same thing. The last time I did this was in October 2007. Currently I carry a lot of junk in my bag, so much that I had to take a separate photo of my bag and the contents in it.

Cole Haan Saddle Box Satchel - I got this bag on my November trip to New Jersey with the Solon Massive. During the week, I love to carry big bags because I can throw everything in it. On the weekends, I normally just head out to run errands with my wallet and iPhone but I end up just carrying this big bag around anyway.

Cole Haan Travel Zip Wallet - finally a wallet that holds all my junk. As long as I don't carry too many coins, it remains skinny and not busting at the zipper seam.
Purple Flip & Tumble bag - this is my favorite reusable bag. I love how it rolls up into a ball that's the same size as a rolled up sock.
Crabtree & Evelyn Gardener's Hand Therapy - not my favorite choice in hand cream but it was free. We were giving them away as swag for a women's conference I helped organized for lawyers.
Jacob fleece gloves - I normally have gloves in every pocket of my winter coats but I carry an extra pair, just in case.
Nike socks - I always carry socks with me in the summer time, I guess I just never took them out of my bag. They are stange looking socks but you can wear them with flip flops (lol).
Purse hook - I have wanted one for so long and now that I got one for my birthday, I forget to use it.
Nylon Magazine - I bought on Friday because of the Vampire Diaries cast on it
iPhone - I don't have 3G on it so I strictly use it for the phone part and iPod part but while I am at work and at home, I take advantage of the wifi.
Faber-Castell pens/random ball pen - blue, green, purple...these are my favorite pens. I also carry a regular ball pen in case I need it.
USB stick
Bath & Body hand sanitizer
mark Invisible Touch Perfecting concealer - for those midday touch ups.
C.O. Bigelow Rose Salve - I rub it into my cuticles and my lips. I use it to tame my eyebrows and flyaway hairs. You can find lots of uses for this salve.
Essie Crystal nail file
The Vampire Diaries (Vol 3 & 4)
Nintendo DS Lite - currently playing Cooking Mama 3 and Fast Food Panic
MAC Lip Gelee in Sapalicioues and Moistly

UPDATE: I just realized I forgot to add my keys to the photo.

What's in your bag?

I love snail mail

I always write on my blog about how much I love sending out snail mail and even receiving it. Today, I got three items in the mail - a thank you card, something I ordered online and a pretty big package. I say pretty big because it took up all the room in our tiny little condo mailbox. It's from my friend Kiiat...she mentioned that she had something that she wanted to send me but I had no idea what it was. I ripped away at the brown kraft paper it was wrapped in and discovered this pink box.

I'm so excited at this point...what can be in this box? Chocolates? I am also still shocked at the fact that I got this in the mail.

I read the sweet of Kiiat to send me this package, it's filled with handmade cards that SHE made!

All tied up with a pretty ribbon. I still can't believe what I am getting here! And it's handmade!!!

She made cards for almost every occasion and they are so cute! I don't think that I even want to use them and give to people. I want them for myself. I want to write in the cards and address them to myself because I want to keep them.

Thank you so much Kiiat! You are so sweet and kind to send me this wonderful package (by snail mail, my fave). I think that you should open up your own business and sell your creations online. I'll definitely one of your first buyers.

Weekend Recap: DD Cottage | 24

DD Cottage
My hubby wanted to hang out with his friend over the weekend so we decided to do a sleepover. I know what most of you are thinking...You are in your 30's and are still having sleepovers??? The answer is YES! It beats having to go home late at night when you are all tired. It allows you to get drunk and not worry about driving home (this is not the case for me). It lets you maximize your time with your friends. Plus, these friends of ours tend to hold us hostage until the weekend is over. We ate lots of chicken Friday night (with lots of KFC coleslaw) and had delicious homemade lobster and corn soup late Saturday night. From Friday to Saturday, all we did was lay on their couch (which when the ottoman is pushed towards the L-shaped sectional, it basically becomes a king size bed) and watch six movies and the SAG awards.
Friday night
Movie #1 District 9 (Showtime: 10:30 pm) - This movie is weird and I just didn't get it so I went to sleep. LD fell asleep right away. The boys loved it.
Movie #2 2012 (Showtime: midnight) - Starting a movie after midnight and the movie being two and a half hours long, no one going to watch and finish it except for Mike. He woke us up at 2:30 when it was over.
Movie #3 Bruno (Showtime: 2:30 am) - I find this movie totally disguisting but the boys were going to watch it. JD found it hilarious. LD and I, of course, went to sleep. It was after 4 am when the movie finished.

Saturday night
Movie #4 Year One (Showtime: 10:00 am) - I tried to watch this some time ago and fell asleep. JD wanted to watch this because he likes stupid movies. Mike and I wanted to see how far he would get. He finished it but the rest of us slept right through it.
Movie #5 Zack and Miri Make a Porno (Showtime: noon) - YAY! The first movie we all were awake to watch. This movie is hilarious. It's a little crude, there's a lot of cursing and lots of exposed body parts. There is one part that we kept on rewinding. It's about sagging boobs. If you've watched this movie, you'll know what I am talking about.
Movie #6 The Hangover (Showtime: 2:00 pm) - We should be leaving DD Cottage but they were trying to hold us hostage and make us stay over again. They even attempted to hide our bags. We decided to watch The Hangover even though Mike and I saw it already. It was funny the first time but watching it a second time, you realize that the beginning and every end is funny, everything in between drags...

We finally left DD Cottage at midnight. I had to put my foot down and say, it's time to go home.

I'll admit it. I just jumped on the 24 bandwagon but I am so far behind with eight seasons so I'll just begin with season eight. Avid 24 fans tell me that I don't really need to watch all the other seasons, I just need to watch the new season from the start...and that is what I am doing. I do have some questions though. Also, if anyone wants to brief me, leave a comment or send me an email (you can find it in my profile).
  • What's the deal with Chloe? Why does she looks like that? It's like she has a pickle up her bum.
  • Is Freddie Prinze Jr's character new this season? He's hot, he's still got it. He's not weathered and worn as my friend says.
  • What does CTU stand for? J/K, I looked it up on wikipedia and it's Counter Terrorist Unit.
  • What's the story with Renee and Jack?
  • Why didn't anyone force me to watch this show? It's so good. I don't know if it's because of FPJ or if I just find it so interesting and intense. Well, my brother did force me to watch the boxed set of season one but I was having trouble with the characters being in the same clothes in all the episodes. Honestly, I didn't understand the concept but now I do. Sorry G, I should have listened to you.
How was your weekend? Did you watch any movies or catch up on shows you've missed?

Blog Friend Friday: Meet BlushPretty

My BFF, Stephanie started BlushPretty a couple years ago and her weblog has been my go-to to satisfy my beauty fix. She posts product reviews and recommendations, and she also has side-bars that she updates monthly (my fave!). We first met in 1998 or 1999 through her ex-BF and my husband. Our story that we like to share with others is that we met when they took us on a double date. Stephanie and I immediately clicked and decide that we didn't want to sit with our goofball boyfriends. She has since moved on to an awesome husband and two blushing boys. Stephanie is so laid-back and down-to-earth and you can see these qualities in her blog. If you are into beauty, this is a blog to definitely add to your blog roll. We share a love for Nicole Richie and Max Factor's 2000 Calorie Lash Plumper mascara.

1) When and why did you start blogging?
I started blogging in 2006 as a way to develop and get the word out on BlushPretty: Makeup and Hair Artistry. Eventually, the blog became a business itself ... So now my business is and BlushPretty: Makeup and Hair Artistry.

Ajax, ON ... Where all of Leesh and Mike’s friends live. LOL

4) Do you also have a Twitter and/or Facebook account?
Yes. I also have a Facebook account and a Facebook Fan Page ... But I’m over it.

5) What is your favorite website to visit daily? ... thank god for that subscription. But I also visit a lot of entrepreneur inspiration websites like The Boss of You and White Hot Truth.

6) What is your favorite vacation spot and why?

Random Thoughts: Starbucks | Walkman

I go to the Starbucks at BCE Place because it's not as busy as the one outside of Union Station in the Royal Bank Plaza. I also go to it because I have a secret crush on one of the baristas there. Anyway, the point of my story is that I love Starbucks. There is one girl who works there. I dislike her. She doesn't make my tall toffee nut soy americano misto right, I think it's because she doesn't put enough of the flavour shot. She also doesn't know how to ring up my drink order apparently. Luckily, today I asked for my balance and on the receipt, I noticed she charged me for a tall latte. Okay, not a big deal right? Trust me, I wouldn't make a stink about it but amercianos are only $2.35 and a latte is $3.10, that's a 75 cents difference. I went back and they put back on my card what the girl charged me. Yay - free drink!  Starbucks is awesome!

This morning on the subway, I saw a woman listening to a Sony Walkman, not a Sony Discman but a walkman. Remember was used to listen to cassette tapes. Do they even sell cassette tapes anymore? I found it so strange to see someone still using this gadget. Doesn't she know that the songs on that tape can be purchased on a CD or on iTunes and put on an mp3 player? I think I would be okay to see a discman being used (the last time I used one was in 2004 on my Cuba vacation) but a SONY WALKMAN??? My parents are not into all the new electronics or technology but at least my dad has a Creative mp3 player and my mom has an iPod Nano (mind you, they need Mike and I to put songs on it for them). I think I would be quite embarrassed if my parents were still using a walkman. So other equivalents to walkman to iPod would be: Betamax machine to PVRs, Atari to PS3, Dial up internet to hi-speed, VHS to Blu-ray.

Can you think of any other old school gadgets and their modern day version?

Product Review: Faber-Castell grip fine pen

Although I love tweeting and blogging, I still believe in and love snail mail or the art of letter writing. Growing up, collecting stationary was my hobby (along with collecting stickers), but as I got hooked on emailing, the hunt for the coolest stationary disappeared. I do still buy blank and thank you cards and to write in these cards, I am always looking out for the best pens to write with.

Most of my girlfriends are pen freaks. When we find a pen we like, we buy every colour and hoard them. For the past couple of years, it's been Le Pen (from Carlton Cards) but now, it's Faber-Castell (available at Indigo or Chapters). These pens write so smooth, the flow of the ink is slightly thicker than Le Pen. It's too bad that Chapters only sells them in blue, green, purple, red and pink. Go to Chapters or Indigo and grab what you can because they are only a dollar!!!

My favorite iPhone apps

I have a history with my iPhone. It's my iPhone but technically, it's not. It belonged to my brother but I consider it mine now because last summer, I tried to update it but I actually reset and locked it. I was pissed. I was angry. I had deleted all the info that was on my brother's iPhone.  This iPhone is the first genertion made, the original one. My brother picked it up in the States before they even released any iPhones here in Canada. I mainly use it as a phone because I am too cheap to get a data plan. Therefore, I use the wifi at home and at work.

Now that I can officially call it my own, I have been adding my own contacts, my own email and apps that I like. I don't have an iTunes account, I use my husband's. The downfall about this is that he can see what apps I am downloading. I get questioned most of the time but I feel that I shouldn't, after all, I only download free apps.

So here are some of the apps that I love, in no particular order:

  • Twitterific - I love twitter and this is my choice of app to use. Maureen showed me how to use it and I love it what it does.
  • MobileRSS - To keep up with all the blogs I am following. I can catch up on my subcriptions on my commute to and from work.
  • aNote - I tried Awesome Note Lite and found that this to-do list had everything I wanted in a list app. I ended up buying the full version for $3.99. I keep lists of groceries, things I want to buy, things I need to do, blog ideas, TV shows I have to still watch and books I want to read.
  • OpenTable - I started off with an account and was booking my restaurant reservations online but now I can do it through this app.
  • Tap Farm - Elisse introduced me to this. She said it was like Animal Crossing so, of course, I had to try it out. My farm is still small but I am addicted. I check it out every morning and harvest my crops.
Sneezies Lite - Another app Elisse introduced me to. This little game is the cute thing EVER. Actually Mike has been playing it the past two nights. He didn't just play one game, he played several. He wants to beat my top score.
What are your favourite apps?

In need of a change

I believe I have had the same hair for about two years. It was long and I loved to curl it into soft waves (like Lauren Conrad). Late last year, I wanted a change but I didn't want to cut my hair, so I dyed it a red-violet colour...and it was bright and my husband hated it. Then after being on a beach for Christmas, it turned into a light reddish brown. My hair suddenly became an eye sore with my dark brown roots and the remnants of a bad dye job.

Well yesterday, I finally did it. After polling if I should cut bangs, I did it. I didn't chicken out this time, and I dyed it a soft black. I am quite happy with this change and the hubby like it too!

What do you think?

Blog Friend Friday: Meet Jenn

I've known Jenn for some time now, since Grade 9 - St. Martin's High School. Our story we love to tell is how I borrowed her white jacket that she made in Family Studies (or whatever it's called) and I never wanted to give it back. The Best 60 books in the last 60 years (by Times Online)

I came across this blog and her post on the best 60 books in the last 60 years. She thinks that it's pathetic because she has read 16/60 but that's not bad considering I have read 3/60. I am posting this list andcrossing off the books I have read. I will make a point to try to read through this list (whenever I start reading again). JRM - 8 years gone

Today is the 8 year death anniversary of my dear friend, JRM. It's very hard to believe that he has been gone for this long. I was thinking about him last night and all the times that I spent with him at Just Desserts, Humber College, BDE events and all the clubs that he would drag me to. He always took care of me (when maybe he should have been taking care of himself instead) and had my back. He introduced me to most of my boyfriends but more importantly, he introduced me to my husband. Unfortunately, he had already passed away by the time Mike and I got married.

He was an amazing friend, ask anyone who knew him and they will say the same thing. He lived his life the way he wanted to and I praise him for that. He enjoyed it to the fullest. JRM - I miss you terribly and although I don't get to visit you often, please know that I am always thinking of you. Take care of my brother for me. You guys are probably partying non-stop in the afterlife.

R3 kids = trouble? No way!!!

Yesterday, the Ponces came over for a visit. See, I offered to lend J's friend my wedding dress since she is renewing her vows in Curacao later this month. J and I have been having some problems connecting but finally, it worked out. I love having the Ponce family come over. I know our condo is small but somehow this family makes it cozy. We talked about their upcoming vacation (I really wish I could go) and R's upcoming birthday dinner. We ate spaghetti and popcorn. We watched Alvin & the Chipmunks. It was a fun and relaxing afternoon. R2 is pure entertainment. I could watch him for hours. R1 can hold his own, he will watch TV, play DS or Wii and not even make a peep. R3 is just full of smiles.

R1 - he only looks bored but he never is...he keeps himself entertained.

R2 - he was obsessed with the candy sushi my co-worker made. He cried when R1 ate one of them.

R3 - my godson. Isn't it crazy that he matched our throw pillows?

R3 Boys - of course I had to do a photo shoot before they left our place.

Life is Sweet

Last week, my co-worker (let's call her "S") and I were talking about warm winter jackets. She was in need of one and couldn't find the right one. I just remembered that I had a ACG jacket sitting at home that I really wanted to use but it's slightly too big for me. I told S that I had a jacket that may fit her. Well, I brought it into work, S loved it and took it home. She wanted to give me some money for it but I couldn't accept any money for a jacket I got for free so I told her to bake me something.

Top L to R: Vanilla cake w/ chocolate icing, Chocolate cake w/ pink vanilla icing, Vanilla cake w/ coconut cream cheese icing
Bottom L to R: Vanilla cake w/ butterscotch icing, Vanilla cake w/ white chocolate icing and Chocolate cake w/ mint icing

Two days later, S gives me a bag that contains half a dozen cupcakes from Life is Sweet, a cupcake shop in the Beaches. These cupcakes don't have uber icing on top and the cake is dense. I actually quite enjoyed them. I think S bought it Thursday after work and Mike and I ate one each Saturday night so they were getting a bit hard. I do remember on Friday at work, S bought some mini cupcakes for the office and the chocolate cake with mint icing was delicious (cake was dense and not too sweet, mint icing had just enough mint flavour).

I have satisified my cupcake craving for now. A pretty sweet trade off for a winter jacket I am unable to wear!

Blog Friend Friday: Meet FürElisse

I recently met Elisse over the Christmas holidays. Technically, I haven't met her in real life. I met her through the blogging community. She commented on my blog and then I checked out her blog. With a few more blog comments, tweets and now emails, we found that we have many things in common. We share a love for JustJared's website and LOST. Since she has been so kind to me, I gave her the honour of being my first "Blog Friend Friday". Check out her blog FürElisse - she is quite crafty and loves to take photos.

1) When and why did you start blogging?
My hubby and I keep up a small blog for our friends whenever we travel, but I started blogging more in 2008 in the midst of my wedding planning.  From March - August 09 most of my posts were written for
as a real-bride blogger.  I've been blogging regularly at "Für Elisse" since October 2009.

I've always enjoyed journalling, and wanted to take the plunge and put my thoughts out there online. The blogging community is so supportive, and I've enjoyed networking with many great bloggers along the way. I'm so appreciative of the feedback I get from my readers - it has really encouraged me to continue writing and develop my "voice".

2) Where do you live?
Vancouver, BC Canada

3) What do you for a living and what do you do in your spare time when you are not blogging?
I work as a hospital-based social worker, specializing in Geriatrics (working with seniors.)
If I'm not blogging, I’m on Twitter, working on my grad school thesis, learning how to cook edible meals, or catching up with a favorite tv show.

4) Do you also have a Twitter and/or Facebook account?
Does Friendster count? Haha - I'm on Twitter @cuteshopper, but somehow I have resisted the urge to join Facebook. I'm probably one of the 100 people who isn't on Facebook.

5) What is your favorite website to visit daily?
Outside of Twitter? Celebrity news is a guilty pleasure of mine, so I will check out and

6) What is your favorite vacation spot and why?
I don't have a favorite vacation spot, although I love travelling and have been to places like the Philippines, Japan, Hawaii & the Caribbean.
Having said that, I may have a fav vacation spot, as we're planning our postponed honeymoon to Europe later this year …

7) Name your top three movies.
Sound of Music (don't tell me you don't sing along too!)
Wall - E (how could you not fall in love with him!!!)
Serendipity (I'm such a sucker for chick flicks :P)

8) Who is your favourite celebrity to stalk?
Brangelina and their kids - I love seeing pics of their gorgeous family

9) Are you a tea or coffee drinker?
Both. I'm front and center at Starbucks whenever they start selling their Pumpkin Spice lattes in the fall. And I love "London fog" drinks (Earl Grey tea with steamed milk and a splash of vanilla.)

10) Do you love cupcakes (as much as I do)?
Yes, yes and YES! I recently made a batch of eggnog and rum cupcakes during the holidays - and they were gone before I could even snap a photo!

Blog Friend Friday (my 500th post)

BTW - this is my 500th post and to commemorate this milestone in my blog life, I am introducing Blog Friend Friday!!!

I have started to read more blogs each day. Finding a new blog to read and adding it to my google reader seems to be what I like doing these days. I thought that I would introduce the creator of the blogs that I follow and ask them some random questions. Hopefully, you will find them amusing or interesting and start to follow their blog too.

Stay tuned tomorrow for my first post for Blog Friend Friday!

Cupcakes by Paolo

It's too bad I don't live in Australia because these cupcakes look delicious.  There's a flavour called Exotic Buko Pandan <-- My husband would love this!!! If you are heading over to Australia (ahem, this means you S-C-O), check out Cupcakes by Paolo, and let me know how they taste.

Note: I found Cupcakes by Paolo from Cupcakes Take the Cake, a blog that features delicious cupcakes from all over the world.

What would you want in a travel blog???

My husband and I are seriously thinking of starting a travel blog. It wouldn't be a blog that we would update daily but rather a blog where we can refer people to for information. We would post up some favorite photos, reviews of the resorts and hotels we have stayed at, fun things to do at the cities we have stayed in, restaurant reviews, our tips for all-inclusive resorts, packing lists, etc...

I am going to post up a poll on the top of my blog. Please check off what you would like to see most on our "potential" travel blog and if you have any ideas on what you would like us to post about, please leave it as a comment.

Call this my market research...

Movie Review: The Blind Side

Everyone has raved about this movie and they should because it's that good.  The Blind Side is based on a true story and it's about football (just like my fave movie - Remember the Titans).

The story is basically about how a woman opens up her heart and home to a kid who is pretty much homeless. He becomes part of their family...he learns to play football...he starts to live a life he never imagined.

I cried at the beginning of the movie non-stop and towards the end, I started to feel better and laugh. It's a heartbreaking story but you will want to fight through it to see the happy ending. I honestly can't get over how this kid lived day to day when he had nothing and no one. He was truly blessed that a good, caring family took him under their wing.

I highly recommend you watch this movie whether you watch it in the theatre now or wait for it on DVD.

Happy New Year - Welcome 2010!!!

Happy New Year!!!

My hubby and I just came back from the new years eve party we attended on Thursday evening. We ended up staying at our friend's house for an extra night. The day after the festivities was filled with more eating and watching six movies in a row - G.I. Joe, Transformers, Zombieland, The Proposal, Ice Age 3 and Gamer. Thanks to our hosts who fed us like we have never been fed before. Thanks to you guys, my jeans no longer fit me. The Cottage has moved up to a five star now that internet and cable are included.

Today is my fresh start. I have given the rest of my cigarette pack to my hubby. I will hit the gym tomorrow. I will start to go through all my junk each weekend to clean out what I don't need. I will put a book in my bag so I will start reading again. On Monday, I will walk into the office with a big huge smile on my face.

To my readers: Thanks for reading my blog and commenting. I am glad that you find something interesting about my writing to keep you coming back. May 2010 bring you much love, constant laughter and a lifetime of memories!

P.S. I have added something new to my sidebar. It's a little box where you can ask me anything. I have only had one question asked so far and it was the website who asked me that question. So, if you are curious about something, feel free to ask...Just re-click on the link above the box at a later date for my response.
