Monday Memories: New York Seltzer

When I was growing up in Whitehorse, it was always a treat for me to ride my bike down to the Riverdale Mart (store, whatever it was called) to buy some candy or a refreshing New York Seltzer. I believe blueberry or the blue bottle was my favorite. What happened to these sweet, delicious drinks? Do you remember them?

Linner and a Movie

Yesterday, Mike, Maureen and I were invited to Marie and Jason's house for linner (lunch + dinner). We have tried to set up this date since January but we could never coordinate our schedules. Marie treated us to a delicious linner, check it out:

Pea sprouts and I don't know what the vegetable at the top was (I forgot to ask)

Slow cooked pork belly and scallops

Korean rice with Japanese seasoning (delicious)

Chocolate macarons with dulce de leche filling

I am just coming off my detox diet so eating all this food was too much for me. It was delicious and I wish I could have eaten more but my stomach was killing me.  It was a shock to my system so I had to pass on the mint chocolate ice cream. I totally give props to Marie for making macarons. They can't be easy to make.

* * * *

After sitting around and talking, we caught the 6:15 pm show of Sex and the City 2. Thank goodness we decided to go early because our theatre was not packed, and we avoided the madness of line ups for the later shows.

I was quite anxious to watch this movie. I'm a big, big fan of the television show and the first movie. As much as I loved that Carrie and Big ended up together on the series finale, I have a huge soft spot for Aidan. He makes my heart melt but I do understand the long history and love that Carrie and Big share. So you can imagine my excitement to find out that Aidan would be making an appearance in the movie.

The movie was long but didn't feel like it. The story flowed nicely, filled with fashion, jokes and beautiful scenery. I enjoyed the movie but wasn't thrilled with the ending. To me, it wasn't anything exciting. While the ending of the first movie tied everything together and gave closure, this second movie, the ending was just...well, okay. I don't want to get into the details of the movie but here's what I liked:
  • Hot guy - you know Anthony's little brother, Nicky
  • The fashion - especially Carrie's Halston white and blue dresses
  • Aidan - there's just something about him
  • Carrie and Big's new apartment - it's beautifully decorated
  • Steve not looking so geeky. Good call on having him wear glasses
  • The wedding scene - what an interesting wedding
  • That private jet - I wish I could always travel like that
Overall, the movie was good. Of course, I will buy it when it comes out in Blu-ray and I might just invest the money and buy the boxed set of all seasons (I think I saw it cheap at Wal-Mart).

What did you think of SATC 2?
What did you like and dislike about the movie?

    Just some random thoughts

    1) This clip of the most annoying person in the world makes me laugh.

    2) I am on week two of my detox diet. So far, so good. Eating healthy requires a lot of prep work and cooking. I find that I am constantly standing over the stove. Stay tuned for some photos. I have lost three pounds with this diet, and some pilates and running.

    3) I am so annoyed by the ending of LOST. I just don't get it. I don't get the whole thing. I am beginning to think I wasted my time watching all the seasons.

    4) Billionaire by Travie McCoy featuring Bruno Mars is forever playing in my mind.

    5) I recently purchased the Crave Toronto book from BlushPretty (who is in the book herself). I can't wait to look through it.

    6) 17 more days until we leave for Gran Bahia Principe Cayo Levantado. Jimmy & Adaiah were over on the weekend and all we talked about was how much we are looking forward to relaxing on a beach. I have already started to pack.

    7) I am looking forward to watching So You Think You Can Dance. I haven't seen one season of it but since finding out that D-Trix (from Quest Crew) will be returning as one of the All-star dancers, I have decided that I need something to watch over the summer.

    8) Mike and tried to sit out on the balcony last night. We get the sun on our balcony after 6 pm. We were reading when along came a HUGE bumblebee. It was the size of two pom pom balls. It freaked the crap out of us, so we ran inside. Hopefully, tonight when we sit out there, it doesn't come back.

    What are you up to?
What are you looking forward to?
    What's been on your mind?

Monday Memories: Kew Beach on Victoria Day

Way back when...we would kick off the first long weekend by going to Kew Beach on the holiday Monday to play some beach volleyball, or in my case, to hang out and just people watch. We would all get to the beach really early to get a net and then just sit around and play the whole day. We would take breaks to get Popsicles, pizza, corn on the cob or even roti one year. Everyone would be at the beach, it was the place to be. Later, we would take off and all go grab something to eat to end the day. It would be Greek or Korean food. Some people would stay to watch fireworks.

After a few years, we stopped going to the beach because it wasn't warm enough. We would just wait for Canada Day weekend. This year, we all lucked out that holiday Monday was gorgeous and warm, the first in a long time.

Fill in the Blank Friday (while watching LOST on Sunday)

    1.  One fashion trend I really regret is anything florescent. It's so 80's and ugly. I had a couple of sweaters, earrings and socks in the bright colours.  I also agree with Lauren on overalls. They are so unflattering.

    2. The one thing that always completes any outfit is a scarf in the winter time or a cocktail ring.

    3.  I would describe my personal style as "just me". I don't think I have a specific style, I just wear what I like and what's comfortable.

    4.  My fashion muse is Lauren Conrad. I love the cute dresses she wears.  I like her chic, California girlie style. It's so laid back and pretty.

    5.  If I could own one designer piece of clothing it would be Christian Louboutin or Manolo Blahnik pumps. I want to know what it feels like to wear good quality heels.

    6.  I would love to raid the wardrobe of
    Lauren Conrad or Nicole Richie.

    7.  Today I am wearing gray skinny jeans, white t-shirt (both from American Eagle) and gold flip flops (from Old Navy).

    Movie Review: Robin Hood

I don't remember the last time I watched a movie with my dad (maybe when I was six and watched E.T. with him?), so when we were on the phone talking about movies, we decided to watch Robin Hood on Friday. To be honest, I wasn't interested in watching the movie at all, I just finally found something that I could do with my dad. He told me that he had never seen Robin Hood: Prince of Thieves (with Kevin Costner) but knew the whole story. I told him that I don't recall the story of Robin Hood. My dad told me, "you know he's the guy who stole from the rich to give to the poor".

I have a lot of trouble watching movies with British accents and I tend to doze off because I can't understand half the dialogue. I tried my best to stay focused on the movie and not drift asleep. Surprisingly, I enjoyed the movie. Every time someone was hit by a sword or arrow, I twitched in my seat. It's difficult for me to watch violence, whether it be with guns, swords, arrows, knives, bombs - I just don't like it.

There's some pretty cool scenes that have to do with bows and arrows. My favorite part is when Robin Hood (Russell Crowe) goes all bad ass to kill the villain in the movie. I am not going to give anything away, just in case you want to watch it. My favorite part is when Russell Crowe shoots an arrow during the battle with France. I will tell you that the movie is about how Robin Hood became Robin Hood, it's all before he came the prince of thieves. If you haven't seen the trailer yet...

The Happiness Project: February - Remember Love

This chapter...what can I say? It stumped me. I tried and tried to read it and got nowhere. I finally figured that in order to move on, I should just give up and pick one (well, the first one I actually read) action and deal with it. So, out of the following - Quit nagging, Don't expect praise or appreciation, Fight right, No dumping and Give proofs of love - I decided to go with QUIT NAGGING.

My husband can vouch that all I ever do is nag. Not only do I nag verbally and constantly, I have discovered a new way of nagging - leaving post-it notes on the bathroom mirror. I guess this was the last straw for the hubby because he made a point to tell me that the more I nag, the more he won't do what I ask him to do. He wants to do things (chores) on his own terms. This was hard for me to accept because when I want something done, I WANT it done RIGHT away!!!

I have been able to let go and loosen up a bit. I don't think that I nag as much anymore but I could be wrong. What I learned in this chapter to help quit nagging:
    • Use one word reminder. Instead of nagging exactly what needs to be done, I'll just say it in one word but I'll say it nicely in a sweet voice. Well, maybe I'll say it in two words, Garbage please!
    • Just do the task myself. Instead of nagging and asking repeatedly, I might as well to do it myself. By spending that time nagging, whatever could have already been done.
I know this post doesn't really explain the chapter on Remembering Love. I just couldn't get into it. It does entail stuff about marriage but I think that this article is much more interesting and useful, 9 Marriage Rules You Should Break.

    Week of finales

This week is going to be a busy week of TV watching. Check here to find out when your favorite show's will air its finale. Last week's season finale for The Vampire Diaries left us with a jaw-dropping ending. I don't think anyone saw that one coming. I had to watch it over and over again because I just couldn't believe how intense and exciting the episode was.

Last night's finales for Survivor 20 and Gossip Girl were on opposite ends of the scale. Survivor 20 was horrible. Once Colby got the boot, was there any reason to continue watching? Sure, to see who would be the sole survivor but with the remaining three - Parvati, Russell and Sandra - I didn't really care to find out who would take the million dollars. The winner was a big disappointment in my books. Why? Why? Why? The whole season was so good. Why did it have to end this way...Now for Gossip Girl...wow, just wow! That little b!tch Jenny. That messed up Chuck. That confused Serena. That conniving Georgina. All storylines were left with a big "?".

I am looking forward to watch this week the final episode for One Tree Hill, 90210, Cougar Town and Grey's Anatomy. Sunday and Monday next week will be Lost and 24.

Monday Memories: Say You'll Stay by Kai

I recently added Say You'll Stay by Kai to my play list. All week it was on repeat. This song reminds me of the phase in my life when I was dating my hubby, and he was in a singing group. I attended numerous practice and performances. I saw guys rotate in and out. I met my BFF through his group. I helped out with picking outfits. I listened to him practice at home and in the car. Anyway, this song is one that his group sang. Kai is an filipino group from California back in the late 90's. This song has such awesome harmonies. Although it's not a song that made the Billboard charts, it's one of those songs that just melt your heart. Yes, that sound so cheesy but it's true. I love the lyrics but most of all, it reminds me of how involved my hubby was in singing and how passionate he was about it. But at the end of the day...I'm glad he grew out of it =)

    A healthy kick

On May 3, I decided to get my butt in gear by going back to the gym and start a cleanse. Since I was strapped for cash, I thought I would do a detox by cutting out certain foods in my diet instead of buying the 2 week cleanse that consists of popping numerous pills every day.  I found a detox diet that was featured in InStyle. The A, B, C, D, E, and F of Nutrition by David Kirsch. This link provides a more comprehensive outline but it give you a quick breakdown, it's basically this for two weeks:

A - No alcohol, caffeine or soda
    B - No breads
    C - No starchy carbs
    D - No dairy
    E - No extra sweets
F - No fruits or fats

I know, I know...what the heck can you eat?  I did awesome the first week. I went to the grocery store and picked up what I needed to make my breakfast, lunch and dinners. I only drank water or green tea. I was doing so well.  Here are some photos of what I made:

Spinach and mushroom egg white omelette

    Spicy chickpeas - recipe here

Baked Salmon with lemon, barley & vegetable mix and snow peas
(I forgot to pull out that stringy thing)

Chicken chili - no recipe as I just threw a bunch of items in the slow cooker - ground chicken, mushrooms, a can of each: tomatoes, chick peas and black beans and some chipotle peppers.

Baked tofu - recipe here, brown rice and steamed broccoli

I was doing so well during the first week. I was going to the gym and following this detox diet. Then Mother's Day came and I pigged out. I thought I could use the excuse of "it was a cheat day", but one cheat day turns into falling off the bandwagon. It didn't help that we needed to get groceries, so I could bring my lunch to work. It was nearly impossible to find takeout that fell into the rules of the detox diet.

I decided last Tuesday that I was going to call it quits and start fresh on Monday. Looks like I will have to go out and by groceries after work. I only have 27 days until I leave for vacation. I must step it up a notch.  If you have any healthy recipes you would like to share with me, please leave a link to the recipe in a comment.

Again, I'm late for Fill in the Blank Friday

I've been totally lazy all weekend but I plan to make up for it before Sunday night. So like they say...better late than never. Here's my answers for Fill in the Blank Friday.

    1.  The very best thing about the summer is when I start to kick off summer by the annual beach vacation I take with my husband every year for our anniversary. We got married on June 7, so we make a point to book a vacation around this special day.

    2.  My first crush ever was Patrick T in grade 6. Many people recall their crush from grade 2 or some young grade but I can't. Maybe I wasn't interested in boys back then or maybe I just have such a bad memory. Patrick T was also my first real kiss. I have a picture of it (an old friend recently found the photo and gave it to me). Last year, we had our grade 8 reunion and I got to see that same boy I first kissed. How cool is that?

    3.  This may sound really silly but
I am so proud of myself that I cut a mango myself so I could eat it. I am spoiled because my husband or mom normally cut my fruit for me so I will eat it.  I saw the mangoes in the fridge and really wanted one, so I attempted to cut it myself. I did it!!!

    4.  I squeeze my toothpaste from
the middle until it becomes all wonky. That's when I squeeze everything up.

    5.  My absolute favorite "comfort food" is soup. Any kind!

    6.  A random fact about me is that when I am home alone and I need the TV to fall asleep, I keep it on the Food Network. It's a safe channel to fall asleep to because you know there won't be any horror movie trailers.

    7.  The one piece of technology that truly makes my life better and I couldn't live without is the iPhone. It keeps me in touch with friends through Twitter, blogs and texting. It allows me to check things on the go and manage my calendar and to-do lists.

    Monday Memories: Beverly Hills, 90210

    In the beginning - October 4, 1990

    The last season - May 17, 2000

My favorite show of all-time. I was devastated to see it come to an end but at least I got closure. Back when it first started, my mom thought it would be a good idea if I watched Beverly Hills, 90210. She even sat and watched the first couple of episodes with me...and then I was hooked. I never missed an episode and as years went by from grade 8 to college, I had different sets of friends who I had to watch this addicting show with. My friend Edilka and I in college were in love with BH, 90210. There were nights when we had to get together to watch it and then talk about it during the drive to school. Were we obsessed? Hell ya! Who wouldn't be. Then after college, when the famed show was coming to an end, Steph S., Maureen and I got together at my place to witness the end of an era and watch Donna  David tie the knot.  Poor Jeff and Mike were forced to watch it too.

We all grew up watching 90210. If you didn't watch it, then I don't know what planet you grew up on. We tuned in weekly to discover what to do in relationships, watch some hunky guys and beautiful girls, to see what was in style and to relate to what was going on in their lives. It's crazy the impact this series had on my life. If and when I have a baby, I am going to spend my mat leave watching the entire series. I figure that if I start when the baby is two months, I have 10 months to watch 10 seasons and I can probably watch an episode a day during the week. Crazy huh but I think it's a great idea.

This is a hard task to do but I would like to point out some of my favorite episodes, in no particular order (it's really hard to pin-point my exact favorites as I loved every single episode aired):

    U4EA - Season 2, Episode 15
    Buffalo Girls - Season 6, Episode 2
One Wedding and a Funeral - Season 6, Episode 10
    Graduation Day Part 1 and Part 2 - Season 7, Episodes 31 & 32
The Penultimate and Ode to Joy - Season 10, Episodes 27 & 28

If you grew up watching Beverly Hills, 90210, what are some of your favorite episodes?

    Happy Mother's Day

It was a massive Mother's Day gathering with the Solon massive. All the in-laws of the Solon kids brought their mom. It was beautifully decorated by my sister-in-law, Dianne (the up-and-coming party designer guru). She did an awesome job with the pom pom, place settings and little gifts for all the mothers (include me - I am not a mother so I was surprised to get one).

hand made pom poms hanging from the ceiling

Sit down lunch for the mothers, all nicely decorated

The lovely gifts from Dianne and Belle. The flower in the pot is a homemade chocolate. I feel special that I got one. Thanks for not leaving me out!

Fill in the Blank Friday (on a Sunday evening)

I came across this fun little exercise on Stingaling's blog which she stumbled upon here. The blogger is doing a series of themed "fill in the blanks". So far there it's been about music and movies (damn I missed those ones). This past Friday's theme was on books.

    1.  My favorite book growing up was the entire Babysitter's Club series. I wish I kept them all instead of selling it in a garage sale.

    2.  The funniest book I've ever read was Angus, Thongs and Full-Frontal Snogging: Confessions of Georgia Nicolson. It's a teen novel but it's hilarious. This girl is quirky and feels no ways telling people what's on her mind. I probably read the first five in the series. I think there's about 10 in total so I should catch up.

    3.  The one book that has truly changed my life is I am still looking for this book.

    4.  If you're looking for a real "tear jerker" you should probably read The Last Song by Nicholas Sparks. I know that everyone hates Miley but it doesn't matter, the book is about so much more - relationships between a father and daughter, friends, first love. I have seen the movie and read the book and as always, the book is much better and definitely more detailed. I spent a Saturday afternoon in tears, unable to breathe because the last couple of chapters were so heartbreaking.

    5.  If I could meet any author living or dead I would want to meet
Stephenie Meyers because I need to know how she came up with the Twilight story and created a vampire that everyone in the entire world is in love with.

    6.  The next book on my "to read" list is The Carrie Diaries by Candace Bushnell. I never read any of her other books but I love it when an author goes back in time.

    7.  If I was snowed into remote cabin in the woods and could only choose three books to bring with me I'd bring Twilight by Stephenie Meyers, Love the One You're With by Emily Giffin and L.A. Candy by Lauren Conrad. As you can tell, I love Chick Lit or teen novels. Something fun and light can keep me occupied. I have to say one thing, I would never be snowed in a remote cabin because it's not my thing so I'm gone to change it to, if I was stuck on a deserted island...

25 more random facts about me

Last year, I posted 25 random facts about me. I thought that I would share 25 more with you:
    1. I only recently discovered  that I actually like honey mustard sauce. All this time, I stuck with BBQ sauce at McDonald's or Wendy's.
    2. I like to cut up all my meat before I start to eat it. It helps me portion the ratio of meat to starch (potatoes, rice, noodles) to veggies.
    3. I have this sick obsession with Quest Crew - America's Best Dance Crew, Season 3.  I would love to hang out with them for a day. They look like they have so much fun no matter where they are or what they're doing.
    4. I must close the closet door before going to sleep.
    5. When I was in grade 6, I entered a contest to design (draw) a poster for National Forest Week (or something like that). I won, which is surprising because I can't draw. The prize - a helicopter ride over the mountains.
    6. I only wash my hair every three days.
    7. It took me six years to complete my two year business management program. I completed one year with a full course load and then realized a full course load was too much so I went to work full-time instead and remained in school part-time. School is just not for me.
    8. Although I love beach vacations, I can't swim.
    9. If I don't have time to put on any makeup, I will at least curl my eyelashes.
    10. I can knit the basics but I don't know who taught me or where I picked it up.
    11. Although I love to bake, the only thing I can make flawlessly are Skor bars.
    12. As of this year, I have stopped drinking wine. It's all about beer from now on...
    13. I still have a washcloth from when I was a baby.
    14. I won't eat fruit unless someone cuts it for me. I am the same way with spam and I love spam.
    15. I love shrimp. If I was on death row, I'd ask for a shrimp buffet as my last meal with a basket of bread.
    16. The first movie my dad took me to (that I can remember) was E.T. I was terrified and hid under my jacket the whole time. Since then I still haven't watched it. That alien freaks me out.
    17. Whenever I open a can of pop, I tap the lid three times. I really don't know why I do this.
    18. Most of the guys I dated or liked were either a Mike, Paul, Joe or Alex.
    19. I can't stand Selma Hayek. My husband feels the same way about Penelope Cruz.
    20. I have a Cabbage Patch Kid that I bought three years ago. His name is Oscar Aryan. He looks just like my hubby. That is why I bought him. My best friend and her husband are his godparents. They even signed the birth certificate.
    21. The first person to call me Leesh was my friend Mary Anne back in 1993. Everyone calls me Leesh now except for my friends who knew me back in high school.
    22. I still have my Mini Pops records. They were like Glee back in the day.
    23. My bubble tea drink of choice is a small peach green tea with mixed tapioca and litchi jelly.
    24. I lived in Ottawa from December 1994 to May 1995. As much as I didn't like living there. I had a lot of good times once I found people to hang out with. There's so many stories about my experience there. I mostly partied every night.
    25. I still have all the letters and candy grams that were given to me throughout high school. It's hard for me to let go of these things.

    Movie Review: The Last Song

I don't know why I insisted that I had to watch this movie. Sure, I absolutely loved the book. Sure, I cried for hours while reading the book. Sure, I thought that the movie must be good because the screenplay was written before the book. Sure, I think that I can get over the fact that Miley is in this movie. Well...

I was extremely disappointed in the movie. They changed many of the small little parts that really put the whole story together. Isn't this the case for all books that are turned into a movie? I thought it would be different since a screenplay was written for the movie before the book was even written. I don't get it.

Some other things that bugged me about the film was that I actually didn't cry at the part that made me cry buckets when I read the book. I couldn't stand Miley but then again, Ronnie, the character is the book was quite annoying too so maybe it was a good casting choice. The timeline in the movie was very different than the book. I get that you have to condense an entire story into two hours but the producers could have at least tried to come close.

I believe I really wasted my time and money watching The Last Song. I still highly suggest you read the book and only watch the movie when it comes out on TV...that Liam Hemsworth is surely some worthy eye candy.

    Blog Friend Friday: Meet openmiq

This will be the last of the Blog Friend series. I may start it again in the fall, I just need to discover more blogs. So, I have saved the best for last. Today's feature is my hubby's blog. I'm a graphic designer for Nike Canada Corp. which I have been there for just under 7 years now.  In my spare time I love trying to learn new songs on my guitar or ukulele (currently it's Julian Casablancas' Out Of The Blue I'm trying to learn), playing indoor competitive volleyball (the reason why I say that is because there are alot of people out there that believe that they play competitive volleyball but really they don't.  They are competitive in nature but their skills can't match up), traveling, surfing and more recently snowboarding (which you know how obsessed I am about it all of a sudden).  For those that don't know, I named my snowboard Vanya LOL!

    4) Do you also have a Twitter and/or Facebook account?
I have a twitter account (Britney Spears is actually following me and you should too LOL!) and HAD a Facebook account.  I deleted it after a few months due to someone stealing one of my pics and ended up in a mass email which I received from CALIFORNIA!  It was so sketchy I deleted everything from there and never returned.

    5) What is your favorite website to visit daily?
    ESPN, RealGM, NBA, Kijiji, Sierrasnowboards

    6) What is your favorite vacation spot and why?
Punta Cana hands down though I think a trip to Turks and Caicos or one of the out islands in the Bahamas can change my mind.

    7) Name your top three movies.
    The Color Purple
    Benjamin Button
    The Drifter

    8) Who is your favourite celebrity to stalk?
I don't have any.  Can I change this question to "Who is your top music artists of all time?"
Maxwell, Amel Larrieux, Spoon and any 90's R&B artist from that era especially 112

    9) Are you a tea or coffee drinker?

Tea.  I hate the smell and taste of coffee.  I think in my lifetime I've drank coffee twice.  Once in grade 10 to pull and all-nighter and last year where I was falling asleep and I had to drive home.

    10) Do you love cupcakes (as much as I do)?
I HATE CUPCAKES!  I hate hearing about it, forcing me to taste all the different ones (which they all taste the same by the way.  Honestly all I taste is sugar), and I just hate cupcakes

A Few of my Favorite Things

I saw this cute post over at Pencil Skirts & Pearls. I thought that it would be fun to post this on my blog and I hope in turn you do the same on your blog. Make sure to leave a comment with the link to your post if you choose to answer these 10 questions along with a photo. Have fun!

    1. Favorite hobby?

    Right now, it's making cards.

    2. Favorite tv show?

At this moment, I am really loving this show.

    3. Favorite restaurant food?

I could eat shrimp for days, prepared any way.

    4. Favorite thing to shop for?

I love buying cocktail rings. I don't spend a lot on them so I can have lots.

    5. Favorite animal?

I am not an animal lover so I don't have a favorite animal. I'll just have to settle for Nemo.

    6. Favorite song?

I could listen to this song for hours.

    7. Favorite word?

I don't really have a favorite word but if I had to pick one, it would be AWESOME.

    8. Recent favorite youtube video?

This isn't my favorite video but I watch it a lot because Quest Crew is my favorite dance crew. Their performances are awesome. My actual favorite YouTube video was taken off by the owner. It was one of Quest Crew's members singing a cover of Adele's Chasing Pavements. It was so soothing to listen to. I'm upset that he has removed it.

    9. Favorite movie?

    This is my go-to movie.

    10. Favorite childhood memory?

I lived in Whitehorse when I was younger. It was kinda cool to have all the neighborhood kids camp out on the front lawn to watch the Northern Lights.

Product Review: butter LONDON Yummy Mummy

butter LONDON polishes have always caught my eye while walking around Holt Renfew. There's something about the way all the boxed polishes are lined up in the rack in so many pretty colours. But...I was never prepared to pay close to $20 for nail polish. Well, seeing that there are many brands coming up with 3 Free - No Formaldehyde, NO Toluene, NO DBP - I had to try out this polish to see for myself. Lucky for me, BlushPretty's Blush Boutique was featuring butter LONDON a few months with a great deal of buy one, get the second half off. I immediately ordered Yummy Mummy and Pink Ribbon. Both are very neutral colours - something that I am not really into as I love dark shades. Pink Ribbon is great for french manicures and let me tell you that Yummy Mummy has now become my go-to neutral shade when I have to give my nails a rest from all the dark colours I wear. What I love about 3 Free polishes is that it doesn't stink up the whole room like it does with drug store brand polishes. My hubby would appreciate this because he can't stand the smell.  I also find that 3 Free polishes don't leave my nails as stained when I remove the polish. Even though 3 Free polishes are expensive, I think that it's definitely worth it.

    Monday Memories: Mark & Spencer

Okay, this isn't the actual picture but who remembers when Mark & Spencer use to be in Canada. More specifically in Square One? It was upstairs where HMV now stands. I use to love going to the store to buy these shrimp cocktail chips. I don't recall the brand or what they looked like but they were delicious and so full of flavour. I don't think I have come close to find anything similar to it. There was another type of chips that resembled french fries or potato sticks. I wonder if these two items can be found at a British store? I really should investigate this...you know, to satisfy the craving.

    CupcakeCampTO

Six hours later, I am finally coming down from my sugar high. This afternoon, Marie and I attended CupcakeCampTO. Just imagine, over 2000+ cupcakes for taste-testing. It was crazy. There were 11 groupings and in each group was four different cupcakes. We didn't arrive on time therefore we missed groups 1 and 2. Marie and I stayed for groups 3-8 and let me tell you by group 5 or 6, my hands were shaking so much from all the sugar that it was difficult for me to even pick up a cupcake to eat it. I took some pictures but sadly, I don't recall what the name of each cupcake is.  My favorites were a chocolate cupcake with a cherry on top and the key lime one. The chocolate cupcake was one of the first ones I tried so I forgot to take a picture of it. The frosting was delicious. So delicious that I had to lick all the icing on the plate that fell off. Don't worry, I didn't actually lick the plate, I used my finger to scoop it up. The key lime cupcake was perfect. Icing was the right amount of sweetness, cake nice and fluffy and I loved the bottom crust. Now I just wish I knew who made it. Take a look at the photos I took:

Top right is the key lime pie cupcake

See the one with the Hawaiian cupcake liner...it has spam bits on top...YUM!

The one of the left is called Half Baked like the Ben & Jerry's ice cream. It's so cute and really tasted half baked

This one is really creative. We didn't eat it because it was too pretty.

Quite an interesting event. We didn't stay for the whole thing because I started to get dizzy from all the sugar. I couldn't imagine three more rounds.  Pat & Marie, who were also there, tweeted photos of what we missed out on and the last rounds had all the pretty cupcakes. I am definitely going again next year. I just hope that the venue isn't steaming hot. It was a sauna in there!
