October confessions

I miss my BFF Stfne. I would go visit her more often but I'm terrified of her dog

I spent $240 on my fall boots. I haven't spent this much on boots since 1997.

I love reading the shout outs section in t.o. night each night on my commute home. It's entertaining with silly banter between commuters.

Listening to I Feel Better by Hot Chip in the morning puts a smile on my face for the rest of the day.

Justin Timberlake singing FutureSexLoveSounds is so sexy...I love how he's not singing in his usual high pitched voice.

I have a crush on the youngest Jonas Brother.

I am also crushing hard on Jeremy Gilbert from The Vampire Diaries. He was so emo in the first season but his confidence this season has made him very likable (and hot).

(Why do I crush on younger guys???)

I'm obsessed with Purdy's chocolates. I, at least, pick up a dozen before my commute home once a week. I have too many favorites to mention.

I realized that I have many quirks. I will share a list of them one day since my hubby took the time to write them all down.

Weekend recap

It really sucks when you have to work two weekend in a row. I feel like I haven't relaxed. I miss just chilling and doing nothing all weekend. Now, because I was out-of-town last weekend for a work conference and yesterday I had to work at the Court House, I am behind in laundry, blog reading and just hanging out with my hubby. I didn't do much this weekend but it was busy. It's almost 10 pm and I can't wait to jump into my comfy bed (hopefully by the time I finish writing this post, my hubby will be finished watching Predator - I tried going into our room but the sounds were creeping me out).

Thursday | I know it's not the weekend but I wanted to share with you the awesome desk my dad made. He recently built us a bookshelf. We loved it so we wanted to challenge him to build a desk. The outcome? It totally works for us and now we can do work (real work and blogging) at our custom built desk, rather than in our bed or on the dining room. I am amazed at how talented my dad is.

Also, my co-worker came back from her honeymoon and brought us some treats...macarons. They were delicious and the best I have ever tasted. Parisian macarons rock! I am now kicking myself for not picking up the macarons my SIL brought back from her trip to Paris.

Friday | Mike and I decided to walk around the mall for a bit. We picked up my new glasses and some basket and accessories for our desk at the dollar store. Dollarama has some amazing items that do not look ghetto. We got home and cooked some Torta Talong. I can't believe that my hubby called me fobby because I cooked filipino food. I have to admit, it was delicious. Thanks to my FIL who walked me through what to do but these instructions for Torta Talong are basically the same thing he told me. I couldn't fall asleep later at night so I played games on my iPhone. I fell asleep around 1:30 am and that's a bad thing considering I had to wake up at 5:50 am for work the next day.

Saturday | Works went by pretty quickly. By 5:15 pm, I reached the DD Cottage. It was Halloween Taco Night. We ate like champs and then Mike, JP and Lyn carved pumpkins while I slept. I was exhausted from work. We didn't watch a marathon of movies like we normally do. I take it that since all of us were up since 6:00 am, no one could stay up late.

Sunday | After a Halloween Taco Breakfast, we went to MQ's after party birthday party. MQ is my little boyfriend, well, the son of our friends. He turned two on Friday. We haven't seen this family since we returned from our trip to Jamaica and let me tell you that MQ has grown up so fast. He is adorable. We left before we could see him in his dragon costume. Finally arriving home close to 7:00 pm, I started laundry and worked on a wreath. Becca emailed me earlier this week with a wreath project and I am proud to say, I completed it. Thanks Becca, I plan to hang it on our door tomorrow when I find a hook.

Sadly, the weekend is over. Mike and didn't get to dress up for Halloween, we are quite sad about it. There was no Halloween parties for us to attend and I was too busy these past couple of weeks with work to think of a costume. Plus, my work doesn't dress up or anything.

Did you dress up for Halloween?
What did you do this weekend?

Fill in the Blank Friday (Halloween edition)

1.  My Halloween plans this year will include working on Saturday and being too tired to do anything at night. Sadly I've been too busy at work to think about costumes. I'm upset about because I love dressing up.

2.  My most memorable Halloween costume was Wonder Woman a couple years back. My mom made my costume and I was actually brave enough to prance around in underwear and a tube top.

3.  For Halloween this year I'm going to be nothing. Unfortunately, there's no time for Halloween this year.

4.  I've always wanted to dress up as Cleopatra, now that I have the hair to match.

5.  Halloween free association! Cold nights, goblins, scary movies.

6.  The worst thing about Halloween is how cold it is. Most girls dress in some scantily clad outfit, so for their sake, I wish it was warmer.

7.  The best thing about Halloween is CANDY and for one night, being someone else...

I love chocolate

Earlier this month, I entered a Ghirardelli giveaway over at Walking with Nora. I swear, I enter any and every contest or giveaway I come across. I know it's a lot of work but the more you enter, the more chances you have of winning.

Nora informed me last week that I won!!! I will receive two free bags of the chocolate flavors below and some coupons. It's perfect since I will be going to San Francisco next month and the Ghirardelli factory is located there. BONUS!!!

I can't wait to receive my prize and since I won't be paying my co-worker's kids to go trick-or-treating for me (I pay the kids $15 to go out for me and collect candy), this will be my Halloween treat. Stay tuned for a review from me.

Thanks Nora!!!!

D-Trix / SYTYCD / Quest Crew

Last week I blogged about going to the SYTYCD live tour. It was an experience to watch it live but I don't think I would go again. I only watched this season because D-Trix (Quest Crew) or Dominic Sandoval (as SYTYCD fans know him by) was back as an all-star. But as the season went on, lots of the all-stars and contestants grew on me.

The reason of my post today is about Dom. Just before the live tour kicked off, Quest Crew posted this video on their website:

After seeing this video, it didn't clear up anything, it just created more questions...Will Dom return after SYTYCD? What do they really mean by "Dom will no longer we performing with Quest? Does this mean forever? Do Hok and Dom still live together?

As all these questions ran through my head, the one thing that kept circling is Quest can't be Quest without their beloved D-Trix. He has all the hip-hop/bboy moves and he is the funny character in the group. Quest is just not the same without him.

Now after seeing the live tour, watching Dom perform with other talented dancers and seeing him run the show, he belongs on that stage, on that tour. In my opinion he is getting more exposure than if he were performing with Quest. I am pretty sure he will always remember where he came from, how he was with Quest when they won the third season of America's Best Dance Crew but with this opportunity how could he pass up steady income for the next couple of months. Yes, he did sign a contract for season 7 but who knows if he was bound to it already from when he was in the top 20 a couple of seasons ago. Just being an all-star and also going on this live tour, he has expanded his contacts, gained more exposure and a new and different fan base. I think he made a smart move. Quest Crew will always be there. They are all brothers so there won't ever be any hard feelings or animosity amongst them.

Dom has such stage presence as a performer and as a host. The tour will be good for him, personally and for his career. I am pretty sure in an interview somewhere, he mentioned that he wanted to learn different dances to better his career and SYTYCD is the right place to start.

Monday Memories: Fraggle Rock

This Monday Memory comes from a conversation on the weekend at my work conference. Our guest speaker was the host from a daily talk program on CBC. I told my coworker that I don't watch anything on CBC (a Canadian channel) and the last time I did was when I was in grade school. The show that I use to watch was Fraggle Rock. I dislike this show for two reasons: 1) It, to this day, freaks me out. The Gorgs who lived above Fraggle Rock are strange looking and same with all the other characters on the show and; 2) the show was on Sunday nights at 7:30 pm. It was an indication to me that my weekend was over and there was school the next day. Also, it was the last show that was allowed to be watched before bed. It makes me miserable when I think of this show. Bedtime and school will forever be associated with it.

To my American blogger friends, sorry if you have no idea what I am talking about.

Fill in the Blank Friday (late on a Sunday)

Sunday night is almost over and I am just filling in the blanks from Friday. It's been a busy week for me and also a busy weekend. I was at Niagara-on-the-Lake for a conference I have been organizing since April. It was a great feeling to see it all come together and actually be executed flawlessly. It was tiring but I am proud of my accomplishment. Now only if I could have tomorrow off but rest is for the weak, I have to be at work at 7:00 am to set up an 8:00 meeting for my boss. Anyhoo, let's have some fun before I turn in for the night.

1. I am so behind in blogging and have over 150 in my Google reader that I have to read. Looks like I will have lots of reading material for my commute this week.

2.  I wish I had tomorrow off. I would book a massage and then watch a movie by myself to decompress.

3.  I like the platinum suite I stayed in over the weekend. I will be sharing some photos later this week. I miss the suite already.

4.  I can now share with everyone that I have reached my goal weight that I set for myself back in May. I didn't lose it drastically, instead, I changed my diet and eating habits. Now all I have to do is maintain.

5.  I hope the weather will be nice and warm next month in San Francisco and San Jose. I am really not looking forward to winter but I am so looking forward to visiting my mom and cousin.

6.  I think I should go to sleep now. I want a good night's rest so I can face another week of work and having to work again next Saturday.

7.  I was behind on all my shows from last week but I was able to watch Vampire Diaries, Grey's Anatomy and One Tree Hill today in between naps.

I hope everyone had a good weekend. Even though I was working, I had fun. I wish I could have eaten more of the delicious food served at our conference but when I am working, I can't eat. I just want everything to be perfect. I hope to get back on track with blogging this week, so stay tuned for posts on the giveaway I won over at Walking with Nora, how I feel about Dominic Sandoval (D-Trix) no longer performing with Quest Crew, photos of the platinum suite I stayed in during my work conference and a upcoming giveaway.

Blog Friend Friday: Meet Becca from life in technicolor.

If I remember correctly, I met Becca through Fill in the Blank Friday. She's got this fantastic, colorful blog, life in technicolor and she is the originator of the infamous, My 30 Day Challenge (two of my real life friends, one blog friend and my husband have completed it or are still doing it). Follow Becca as she prepares for the birth of her baby girl, comes up with cool challenges and giveaways and don't forget to check out her crazy Pez collection.

1) When and why did you start blogging?
Back in the day, which of course was a Wednesday, by the way ... (any Dane Cook fans? eh?) I used to have a xanga. I wrote on that thing all through high school and loved the idea of having an online journal. I quit my xanga when I left for college, but toward the end of my senior year, I noticed a lot of people were getting into blogging. I thought I'd give it a try and was completely hooked right off the bat. I started my blog in December 2009. I blogged here and there, and in March decided to come up with a 30 days of blogging challenge that would keep me focused on posting every day so that I got into the habit. It was a lot of fun and really challenged me, so I created and started the my 30 days challenge in August. I have a few other series that I blog about often, and then I throw in some personal blogging too.  Oh, and I love thinking up challenges or posts or giveaways that include my readers!

I enjoy writing and photography, so blogging is a great place for me to get my thoughts out, have everything together in one convenient place, and to connect with others through these two things.  I am big into layouts and designing ... I'm such a type A organization nerd ... I enjoy working with html code and arranging all of my elements on each post to create a setup that I like. And I'm a huge fan of typography and color, so my blog reflects that.

2) Where do you live?
I live in Nixa, Missouri, USA. (You might recognize it as Nixa is the birthplace of fictional character David Webb (who becomes Jason Bourne) in the Bourne movies.) Nixa is a small little suburb 30 minutes south of downtown Springfield and 30 minutes north of Branson. I like Nixa because it's quiet, friendly, and away from all the tourists, large businesses, schools, hospitals, and traffic. We have a shopping strip or two and a Walmart, so it's pretty perfect.

I was born and raised in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, USA,  so it's quite a contrast from the huge city I was used to. However, we moved to Louisville, Ohio, USA when I was in middle school, and Nixa is eerily similar to that small, friendly town :)

3) What do you for a living and what do you do in your spare time when you are not blogging?
I am the assistant editor of AG News and I work at the General Council of the Assemblies of God USA Headquarters. So I write allllllll day long, including my lunch breaks, when I'm usually blogging. :)

When I'm not at work, I enjoy drawing, journaling, sewing, crafting, baking, ice skating (although that's put on hold right now until our little girl is born in January) and collecting pez dispensers. My husband Caleb and I both enjoy painting, thrifting, mini-golf, and "camping" in our living room — which is putting blankets and pillows on the living room floor, ordering a pizza, and breaking out chips and cheese and pop for a movie night — so we do those things together a lot.

4) What is your favorite website to visit daily?
Besides Facebook, Twitter, Gmail, and Blogger? Lol. Is there anything else? Actually, I've been on nfl.com a lot recently, to check scores, schedules, stats, and to update my fantasy football league. I love football season!

5) What is your favorite vacation spot and why?
My family never really went on annual vacations, but my mom took us to Hershey Park one year and day took us to Disney World one year. I also went to Disney World in high school for marching band. I've been to Niagara Falls with one of my best friends, Amy. And I have been to Myrtle Beach three summers in a row with the Flanigans, a family I babysat for.

These days, Caleb and I are big fans of Branson. We go to the lake and hang out on the beach all day, or spend the day at Silver Dollar City. We went to Branson on our honeymoon and enjoyed all the shows and activities the city has to offer. We recently took a mini-vacation there and rented a hotel, saw some shows, went to SDC, went thrifting, mini-golfing, and enjoyed some time away from home. People travel froml all over to come to Branson, and it's pretty funny.

6) Name your top three favorite songs.
This is really hard to only pick three, but I would say 1) Eleanor Rigby by The Beatles, 2) Yellow by Coldplay, 3) Just Another Love Song by Joe Purdy (one of our wedding songs.)

7) Who is your favourite celebrity to stalk?
I love stalking Kate Walsh's twitter (@K8Walsh). She is really hilarious and spends a lot of time on there answering questions. She has the craziest insight. She is pretty down to earth but really quirky and adventurous and I love that about her. She's always been my favorite character on Grey's Anatomy and Private Practice is just genius.

8) What's your favorite drink?
I absolutely love Dr. Pepper and have enjoyed it as long as I can remember. Although we are on limited doses now that I am pregnant. :)

9) What is your latest obsession?
My latest obsession is sewing. I just got my first sewing machine as an early Christmas/birthday/you just had a baby present from my mom. Last week I started making a quilt and soon I want to start fashioning newborn clothes. Earlier this year I started making hair accessories from felt, fabric, and vintage buttons, and that's pretty fun too. I have a table in the kitchen covered in stacks of felt and a tray of buttons specifically for my projects. And painting! I love painting, and so does my husband. We have 5 canvases we painted in the baby's room, one I painted upstairs, and two in the kitchen. And I want more. Haha.

10) What would your last meal be?
I love, love me some pasta, salad and breadsticks. But my absolute favorite meal of all time is Thanksgiving dinner ... turkey, mashed potatoes and gravy, sweet potatoes, corn, dinner rolls, pumpkin pie ... yessssss.

#SYTYCD / #imjustsayin

You know how you use hashtags on Twitter...well, I am using it today for this blog post. I bought tickets for me and Stephanie I back in August and I honestly thought this day would never come. Well, now here we are October 19 and tonight is the So You Think You Can Dance live tour show (for season 7).

Surprisingly, I haven't seen a season of this show and I only decided to watch season 7 with the All Stars because Dominic Sandoval aka D-Trix was going to be dancing. (I fell in love with Quest Crew when they were a competitor in America's Best Dance Crew). After watching one episode of SYTYCD7, I was hooked. I came attached to the contestants and even had a hard time deciding if I wanted Kent or Lauren to win. At the end, it didn't matter to me because all the dancers are awesome and so talented to watch.

Thanks again to all my twitter friends (@kaileenelise, @venettem, @sting_a_ling and @mommydoings) for keeping me company on Twitter while watching each episode. I will be thinking about you when I watch the live show.

I really wish though that Mark, Lauren and tWitch were joining the All Stars on this tour. I can't wait...well, I just have to get this work day over with!!!

Tea trade package

Back in September I joined a tea trade over at Gussying up the Tuttle. Well, yesterday, I finally received my tea. I am quite honored to receive this lovely package from Chelsea B over at Pencil Skirts & Pearls! I have read her blog before and know that she is quite popular in the blogging community. I can't wait to try the tea in the mug she included. I also am so in love with the hanging towel she threw in.

Thank you Chelsea for everything and thank you Melita for setting up the 2nd annual tea trade. I can't wait for the next one.

Monday Memories: Rockstar Supernova

Back in 2006, I was obsessed with the second season of the reality music show, Rockstar Supernova. The show was not really my cup of tea since I am not a big fan of rock music (Making the Band and American Idol is more my thing) but I was hooked. Mainly, it's because I became a huge fan of Toby Rand and just wanted to see him win. Sadly, Lukas Rossi took home the prize of becoming the lead singer of supergroup, Rockstar Supernova with Tommy Lee, Gilby Clarke and Jason Newsted. While I should be happy that a Canadian from my hometown won, I was quite disappointed with the results.

Duets

On Friday, I finally watched Tuesday's website of Glee. I told my co-workers not to tell me anything about it. The only thing they said was that it was an "okay" episode, nothing exciting. Well, to my surprise, I really liked the episode. Go figure...I was one of the only ones who adored the Britney episode (I am wondering if my friend, Pernia liked this Duets episode?), so why wouldn't I like this one.

Here are two of my favorite duets of the night:

After watching, I began to think of all other duets, and I am not talking about a rapper with a featured singer or a singer with a featured rapper. I am talking about a song made for two people, each taking turns singing a different verse and the chorus and bridge together. Enjoy this play list I put together:

What is your favorite duet?

happy 101

I have been awarded and tagged by the adorable Nikolett over at better than coffee. Although I received this award mid-week, I wanted to take my time and think about what I wanted to write about.

Rules for happy 101 award:
1. Post who gave you this award.
2. State ten things you like.
3. Give this award to 10 other bloggers and notify them with a comment.

1. Receiving snail mail | This brings a huge smile on my face when I receive a letter or package at home or even at work. I sometimes get packages sent to my work because it's a welcoming break in the day to tear open the box and discover the contents. I honestly think that if more people sent letters, postcards or packages by snail mail, this world would be a happier place.

2. When things at work go your way | As part of my job, I have to find lawyers who are available to speak at our programs. I get ubër excited when someone accepts my last minute invitation. I love when I get what I want from vendors or when I can strike a good deal. These little things make me yell at the top of my lungs at my desk. If I had a bell, I would definitely ring it!

3. Clean sink, happy home | It's the new rule in our household and it truly works. Last night, we left dirty dishes in the sink and my husband was extremely grumpy when he woke up in the morning.

I Feel Better by user8289977

4. Music that picks you up | There are certain songs I need to listen to in the morning so I feel good and ready to face the day. I really should make a play list so I can listen to it every morning on my commute into the city. One song that I must listen to is I Feel Better by Hot Chip.

5. Bright, bold lipstick | With the dreary winter quickly approaching, bright, bold lipstick makes me look more alive, rather than drabby. Orange, Hot pink, Red, Plum...take your pick.

6. Juicy, dramatic cliffhangers | As much as I hate being left wondering what will happen next, I love hanging off the edge of my seat, watching every moment of a juicy cliffhanger. I don't mind a cliffhanger at the end of an episode but please don't throw one in a season finale. I can't wait a couple of months to find out what happens. Don't torture me. Watching Katherine in Vampire Diaries confuse the whole town definitely had my mouth wide open with shock.

7. Upcoming vacays | I like counting down the days to my next vacation. I have a counter on my iPhone. We leave for San Francisco/San Jose in 27 days. I have been planning with my mom and cousin all the things Mike and I are going to do. We have some tourist traps we will be visiting and have a huge list of restaurants we want to try. I love researching and make an itinerary. On our list of touristy places - Alcatraz, Winchester Mystery House, Monterey Bay Aquarium, Fisherman's Wharf, SF Moma, Ferry Building Marketplace and Santana Row. As for our list of restaurants - that I will not share until we come back.

8. Massages | I am due for one. After I work the next two Saturdays, I will definitely schedule one. I found a new RMT, who worked my neck and shoulders until it burned like fire. I questioned her technique and pressure but she informed me that I had many knots and was extremely tense. The next day, I found myself sitting straight and standing tall. I had an overall good feeling and even had a hop to my step. I look forward to my next massage.

9. Icy, cold beer | Summer time, stress time, weekend, weekday...any day is perfect for a nice cold beer. Beer is the only alcoholic beverage I can drink at the moment. Cocktails are too sweet for me and wine gave me that annoying headache.

10. Lists | I'm a list girl. I like making lists to keep my life in order. I forget a lot of things and there is also a lot going on in this little head of mine. I make lists upon lists like: grocery list, music and iPhone apps I want to buy, things to do, blog ideas, TV shows I watch, resorts I want to go to, books I want to read...the list goes on and on.

Now I must tag 10 bloggers. Sorry if I am tagging you again but it will give you something to blog about and you also get the award. If you are not up for this...no worries, I won't be offended but check out these other blogs who I have tagged and awarded:

P.S. - if I didn't tag you, it doesn't mean that I don't have love for you.

Fill in the Blank Friday

I am really starting to look forward to Fill in the Blank Friday. I am always curious to see what questions Lauren over at the little things we do will ask. Join in the fun here and don't forget to link up your post to her page.

For most of us, we had a short week. Did it go by as quickly for you as it did for me? I am truly going to take advantage of this week since the next two following Saturdays I have to work. I have no idea what is in store for me tonight but Saturday is going to be a full day of cleaning. I have been saying for ages that I am going to tackle the den but it's still a mess. The desk that my dad is building is almost ready but not ready to be placed in our den yet. I must organize the den asap! Sunday is dim sum with my little Westside crew. I can't wait for Reg and Maur to try our little secret dim sum place. After eating, Maur and I will either watch Life As We Know It or Jackass 3D. What are you up to this week?

1. Blogging is giving me a sense of friendship, commitment and belonging. I've made some wonderful friends who I've had the privilege of meeting or hope to one day meet. I've found something I can commit to and continue. I love coming up with things to write about. It's nice to feel like you belong to part of a group who has accepted you with open arms.

2. A current fashion trend I wish I was brave enough to wear is riding boots or tall boots for that matter. I have really skinny legs and I feel like tall riding boots don't sit right on me.

3. My greatest accomplishment in life thus far is finally finishing college. It took me six years to receive my diploma and it's because I was also working a full time job at the same time.

4. If I had to choose between a mountain or a beach vacation I'd choose a beach vacation. I'm not a nature, camping/cabin/cottage type person. I need the sun, sand, ocean and drinks to make my vacay complete (Lauren-why does this question look a little familiar-lol).

5. A talent I wish I had is dancing. I watch many dance shows and movies so you would think I actually know how. I lust over talented dancers but the best I can do is the bus stop/electric slide at a wedding. I also secretly want to be a b-girl.

6. A talent I do have is painting my own nails. I change colours once a week since I can't stand chipped polish.

7. This week was a short week that went by quickly. I'm so glad it's Friday.

Blog Friend Friday: Meet the Margarita from love and bistros

Margarita from Ramblings of a Fab Brunette was featured earlier this year but I wanted to feature her again because of her other blog, love and bistros. In this blog, she posts about cooking and travel. Be sure to check out both of her blogs. She is quite a writer and reminds me of a young Carrie Bradshaw.

1) When and why did you start blogging?
I started blogging about 4 years ago, but was more focused on fashion and inspirational images. I eventually wanted to have more of an outlet personally than just creatively, and Fabbrunette.com was born!

2) Where do you live?

I grew up in Hamilton, then Toronto and then moved to Vancouver!

3) What do you for a living and what do you do in your spare time when you are not blogging?

I’m self-employed. I help run my boyfriend’s company and I always own a cupcakery as well as do wedding coordinating.

4) What is your favorite website to visit daily?
Guilty pleasures? Gofugyourself.com and dlisted.com!

5) What is your favorite vacation spot and why?
This one is tricky since I love so many places! Probably between Amsterdam and Paris, they are both absolutely beautiful cities full of history, architecture and tons of shopping and good food!

6) Name your top three favorite songs.
“Read My Mind” by The Killers, “Intervention” by Arcade Fire, “Samba de Bancao” by Bebel Gilberto

7) Who is your favourite celebrity to stalk?
My fave celebrity used to be Victoria Beckham, and I suppose I still take an interest in her, she’s pretty fabulous!

8) What's your favorite drink?
Champagne, darling! Otherwise we’ll have some sauvignon blanc and I am in love with my Harvey & Sons tea “Paris”.

9) What is your latest obsession?
Healthy cooking – without being boring! I’m trying to play with spices in order to make vegetables a bit more appetizing!

10)  What would your last meal be?
My last meal would have to consist of a Caesar salad, a fresh baguette with some bruschetta, a delicious medium-rare steak and matchstick-thin salty frites with crème brulee to finish it all off. Mmm, that sounds good.

South of Temperance

I met the lovely Lisa of Hip & Urban Girl Guide this evening at South of Temperance. I love the story of how I met Lisa and I am glad we are planning to get together every couple of months.

I have wanted to check out South of Temperance since the Executive Director at my work mentioned going there for lunch in the summer. Sadly, they could not accommodate 10 of us lunch. I missed another opportunity when my work ran their first pub night for young lawyers last month. I can't remember why I missed it but after my visit tonight, I am going to make sure I go to the next pub night in November.

I was greeted at South of Temperance by the head of security, Chicago and then escorted to a table (all arranged by Lisa). As I waited for Lisa, Tom, the owner, came over to say hi. He is the nicest owner I have ever come across. He treated us like we were queens and all his staff made sure we were well taken case of. Here's what we ordered:

 Chorizo Naan Bread
Fresh mozzarella, bermuda onions, fresh basil

 Grilled Ahi Tuna Salad
Organic greens, hearts of palm, green beans, marinated onions, mini potatoes, black pepper vinaigrette

 Fish Tacos
Grilled pineapple and jicama slaw, avocado crema, coriander

Sweet Potato Fries

My favorite was the fish tacos but there is so much more on the menu I would like to try. You have to see for yourself the selection they have. I am also very interested in their brunch. Looks like I found where I will be celebrating my birthday in December.

One other thing...lots of eye candy in suits. Well, most of them seem like older men but as we were leaving, I noticed a few younger suits. It's too bad that I didn't make it here in the summer time because S of Temp has an awesome patio.

Thanks again Lisa for getting the hookup. I had a great evening just chatting it up and eating good food!

YSL Rouge Pur 131

Back in August when I went to get my eyebrows waxed by Megan (at Benefit Brow Bar), she introduced me to YSL's Rouge Pur. She applied a very bright orange (#21 Indian Orange) which was a perfect summer color to go with my dark hair. Unfortunately, I wasn't ready to buy at the time and it's a good thing I didn't because it is not a color I can wear in the fall. After testing a couple different shades (#140 Purple Velvet and #143 Blazing Red), I settled for #131 Opium Red. It's a great red-orange color for the fall. I've worn it twice and both times received compliments on it. I loved how one of the compliments was from my friend's husband.

This lipstick is creamy but definitely has an element of shine to it. It is quite hydrating and has lasting staying power. I was skeptical about returning to lipstick since I am such a lip gloss girl but I am actually liking the texture of lipstick now that the cold season is approaching. I would love to get another color but at $35 a pop, I will stick to the one I have and buy another one for the summer.

It's okay...

...to want nail polish in every spectrum of the rainbow.

...to crush on real life people instead of celebrities (Hello Preston and Marco).

...to buy three pints of Haagen Dazs ice cream for "emergencies".

...to have a can of Coke on those terrible tired days when you really need it or when you feel like drinking something bad.

...to say no to some things when you are swamped at work or have no funds.

...to buy $240 boots because they make you taller.

...to have four hot pink bras even though you don't like the color pink.

Monday Memories: Happy Thanksgiving

Do I have fond memories of Thanksgiving, not really but whenever Thanksgiving rolls around, I think about how much my brother loved his stuffing. On Friday, I mentioned that I had to deliver a poem written by my mom for my brother. I hope she doesn't mind that I share it since I have received a few comments about the poem.

Happy Thanksgiving to you and your family!

Let's Play Tag...8 questions

I was tagged in this fun 8 questions game by Lin at Linny's Vault.

So the way this goes is I answer her 8 questions, then I make up 8 of my own & tag 8 awesome bloggers to answer them.

***

1. If you could have any job, in any industry, what would it be?
I'd want to work for a fashion magazine or a PR company. I need to be doing something creative in fashion or beauty.

2. Where do you see yourself in 5 years?
I hope to see myself with at least one kid in a townhouse. Hopefully still going on beach vacations and working at a job I actually like.

3. What's the best vacation you've ever been on?

Asides from my wedding in Punta Cana, I would say, Cayo Ensenachos in June 2009. Our friends, JP and Lyn surprised us by flying in the day after we arrived and we met an awesome couple, Wes & Tina from Vancouver. We were all inseparable the entire vacation. We relaxed and drank a lot everyday. We did our own little excursion by paddle boating to the other beach. We were extremely silly in the pool and at dinners. We just all clicked and had such a memorable time.

4. If you could meet anyone, dead or alive, who would it be?
I want to meet Lauren Conrad. I just love her style and she seems so down to earth.

5. What is your favorite movie & why?
My favorite movie is The Devil Wears Prada. I am choosing this movie because I can watch it over and over again. I love the fashion in the movie and also the silly one liners from Emily. Meryl Streep does a great job mimicking Anna Wintour.

6. What is your favorite alcoholic beverage?
Right now, I am loving beer but I just remembered the other day how much I love Hypnotic & Champagne.

7. What's on your Christmas wish list?
I am not a fan of Christmas but if I had to come up with a list, it would include a Shu Uemura eyelash curler, a new bag, a hand mixer, an iPad, more tea from David's Tea and some new books.

8. If you had 1 million dollars what would you do with it?
I'd give some money to my family and then move to an island with my husband.

I tag...
Reni @ my so-called life
Maureen @ a little rough around the edges
Stephanie @ A Simple Kind of Life
Lauren @ the little things we do
Elisse @ Für Elisse
Marianne @ Royal Mail
Becca @ life in technicolor
Nikolett @ better than coffee

Here are the 8 questions for you to answer (if you participate, leave a link to your post in a comment):

1. What's your Starbucks drink?

2. What movie do you like better - Sex and the City or The Devil Wear Prada?

Fill in the Blank Friday

Friday is here again...so you know what that means...it's Fill in the Blank Friday time!!!  To all my Canadian friends and bloggers, here's wishing you a Happy Thanksgiving! Throw on those fat pants and enjoy eating turkey to your heart's content.

1.  The first thing I do in the morning to start my day is check my iPhone for emails, tweets and new blog posts. Then I go to the kitchen to have a glass of water with lemon juice in it (my naturopath asked me to drink this every morning).

2.  Today I wish I was not to so tired. I'm going out with my hubby and friends for beers but I'm exhausted.

3.  If I had an extra $100 in my bank account today I'd get another tattoo.

4.  Tomorrow I'm going to the cemetery to drop off a poem my mom wrote for my brother for Thanksgiving and then buy some paint for the desk my dad is building for our condo.

5.  Two things that don't go together are me and cheese. It's a bad combination. I get really sick when I eat cheese or dairy for that matter.

6.  Something I can never pass up at the grocery store is nothing really. It use to be chips but I've cut them out of my diet.

7.  The last time I tried something new was
the YSL lipstick I bought for the fall. It's a bright red-orange.

Blog Friend Friday: Meet the Lisa from The Hip & Urban Girl's Guide

I came across the HUG blog by fluke on Twitter. I started following @HipUrbanGirl and next thing you know, Lisa is inviting me to the Hip & Urban Girl parties. Unfortunately, I have not been able to attend one yet but she did invite me to a tweet up dinner she organized. I thank her for the invite because I met other bloggers and tweeters. Gotta love social media!

Let me share with you a funny story about the first time I met Lisa in person. I was at the Thompson Hotel lobby bar with Mr. Dee and I saw Lisa talking to someone on the other side of the bar in front of Scarpetta. As geeky as I am, I tweeted her to say that I could see her and that I was on the other side of the bar. A bit stalker-ish huh? She came over to introduce herself and her husband. It's always nice to finally meet a fellow blogger/tweeter in person.

Make a point to check out The Hip & Urban Girl's Guide. They throw awesome parties and have up to date news and events in the Toronto area.

1) When and why did you start blogging?
I started in January 2010 with just a regular old blog.  My friend Wendy and I collaborated our two blogs to form, The Hip & Urban Girl's Guide @ http://www.hipurbangirl.com.  We are a blog focused on positivity and lifestyle for women ages 25-35.  Our topic range from food, travel, events and style. We also host our unique networking events.  We got serious about our blog in April and hired a web designer to clean up our template.  We had our official website launch in June 2010 and have been growing very quickly.

2) Where do you live?
I live on the Danforth in Toronto

3) What do you for a living and what do you do in your spare time when you are not blogging?
I am a full-time wedding DJ and own my company called hello DJ! @ http://www.helloDJ.ca  I keep busy DJ-ing around 40-50 weddings a year.  It's definitely an interesting job and I love the flexibility of working for myself.  I make sure to only work with the best clients, so it never feels like anything but fun.

4) What is your favorite website to visit daily?
Twitter - I think I'm a social media addict.  I need to ween myself off it.

5) What is your favorite vacation spot and why?
Oh this is so hard.  But I think Hawaii takes the cake.  It's a beautiful, lush island full of friendly people, great food and amazing beaches.  I love being near the water, lying on a beach and just vegging out.  City vacations to New York City are also fun, but I feel like I can truly unwind on a vacation to Hawaii.

6) Name your top three favorite songs.
Mo Money, Mo Problems, Notorious BIG
Number One, Goldfrapp
Crazy In Love, Beyonce

7) Who is your favorite celebrity to stalk?
The entire cast of The Hills, it's just fascinating...sort of like a train wreck where I can't stop looking.

8) What's your favorite drink?
Champagne!

9) What is your latest obsession?
Google Analytics.  I check every day as we grow our blog into a full-fledged lifestyle magazine.

10) What would your last meal be?
Dim Sum - every single type please.

Randoms this week (10.05)

I have some time while I am watching Glee. I hope it's good tonight because I really enjoyed last week. I miss One Tree Hill every week to watch Glee in real time.

For the past couple of days, my hubby and I are trying to have a clean sink before we go to bed.  Every night when he turns off the light in the kitchen he says, "Clean sink = Happy home".  I love it!!! And honestly, it's nice to go to sleep at night and wake up in the morning to a sink that's not full of dirty dishes.

Last week, I made some White Chocolate Pecan Cranberry Squares. This was at the request of my hubby because everything I make always has milk chocolate and he wanted something with white chocolate. I have to tell you that these squares are delicious. I brought some into work and everyone enjoyed them.

One of my colleagues will be getting married this weekend. I was asked on Thursday to order some food and get champagne to toast her on her big day. I love ordering hors d'oeuvres when I am not paying for them!

On the way into work this morning, my GO train station, Port Credit had a Customer Appreciation Day. All commuters were treated to breakfast (I chose a cinnamon bun) and a gift bag. I was pretty impressed with the contents of the reusable bag they handed out. Don't you love getting free stuff, even if it's promotional stuff?

P.S. thanks for everyone who complimented on my banner/blog header. I had to change it because I was embarrassed of my old banner mentioned on Life in Technicolor. Luckily, I came across a recent post from the little things we do on how to make a photo collage blog header.

BTW... I had difficulty choosing between compliment and complement in the last paragraph so I had to google it (found this on hubpages.com):

Although the words are pronounced the same, they have very different meanings. When you compliment someone, you are giving them praise; while complement represents completing or making something perfect. You can remember this by the word with the "e" also means complete. Complement = complete. Here are a few examples:
  • I complimented her on her beautiful gown.
  • Her gown complemented her earrings perfectly.
  • The dancer received many compliments for her beauty and grace on stage.
  • The music was a perfect complement to her dancing style.

Monday Memories: Flowers and Valentine's Day

There was a time when my hubby liked to send me flowers. Those days are long gone but what will always be remembered are the silly poems he would write on the cards. You may not know but my hubby is the weirdest person you will ever meet. If you ask his siblings, they will tell you that their brother is a little strange.

What would you think if you received this for Valentine's Day??? --- Sing the words to the tune of the Barney song...

He's a little off huh?

Lazy Sunday

It's so nice to wake up today on a gloomy, cold Sunday and have no plans whatsoever. It's already three in the afternoon and I am happy to announce, I am still in my pjs. For the rest of the day, I plan to stay in them and do the following to occupy my time:

  • catch on shows I missed this week - One Tree Hill, 90210 and Survivor
  • maybe watch Cougar Town and Glee again
  • eat leftover creme brulée from last night
  • think about writing some blog posts for the week since I know I'll be busy with work
  • mull over some of the purchases I made this week - Nine West Korvino boots and Nila Anthony Lorelai Oversized Satchel
  • read the September and October issues of In Style that are sitting on my nightstand
  • researching things to do in San Francisco
  • Do 40 minutes of Pliates  (arms and then buns & thighs)

What are you doing on this lazy day Sunday?

Recipe: TOBLERONE Creme Brulée

This is the third time I have made this creme brulée and it's quite a big favorite. It's simple to make. You can even bake it ahead of time and just do the final touches right before serving.

Toblerone Creme Brulée

Prep time: 20 minutes
Total time: 9 hours and 45 minutes
Makes 4 servings, 1 ramekin (125 ml) each

Need it:
1 cup milk
2 bars (100 g each) Toblerone Swiss Milk Chocolate, broken into triangles
125 g (1/2 of 250 g pkg) Philadelphia Light Brick Cream Cheese, cubed
5 egg yolks
1/4 cup sugar

Make it:
Heat oven to 300°F.

Microwaveable milk in large microwaveable  bowl on MEDIUM for 3 minutes or until boiling. Carefully remove bowl from microwave. Add chocolate and cream cheese; beat with whisk until well blended. Add egg yolks; mix well.

Pour into 4 (1/2 cup) ramekins; place in shallow baking dish. Add enough water to baking dish to come halfway up the sides of ramekins.

Bake 45 to 50 minutes or just until centers are set. Cool completely. Refrigerate 8 hours.

Heat broiler just before serving. Sprinkle custards with sugar; broil 2 minutes or until sugar is browned and melted.
